In many threads, quotes of other users' prior posts can become so long that they take more than 3/4ths of each post just to repeat what the other users have said. I know text can just be deleted to save space, but sometimes having the full context is helpful to catch up with the discussion.

Is there some way to collapse text into a drop-down or behind a spoiler that shrinks it until clicked? I know a lot of folks just "-snip-" to cut down on the length of their posts, but is there another, cleaner way to achieve this?

Do what I do: ignore everyone who puts any effort into their posts whatsoever

this wouldn't be a problem if people would just edit their posts properly, but they're selfish assholes and those kinds of people aren't known for changing their selfish ways.

You can't collapse other posters' writing without abusing the ignore function (which will throw you back to the start of the thread anyway).

You can collapse your own text, however, using the spoiler function. I've found this can be a useful tool if you're posting a wall of text (sometimes relevant for streams of data on election nights).

Also, if you're writing a long post, and want to avoid clogging up the post, using the spoiler headings as chapter titles can allow you to keep the long-post easily navigatable.

If you open the "quote" option on this post you can see the relevant bbcode below:

Spoiler alert: Explainer

Not sniping quoted posts in long back-and-forth's is as bad as not putting a shopping cart back in the designated area. It is incredibly easy, to the benefit of everyone, and an essential part of living in a civilized society. But for some reason, a lot of people don't do it.
