No. He is not a very good politician, and he under-performed “generic Trump endorsee” by quite a bit in the primary and “generic Republican” by quite a bit in the general.
I can see it. If nothing else, he fits the mold of what I'm expecting the next Republican President to be like: Trumpian with a nonthreatening veneer.
I think he fits a mold that some intellectuals expect/want the GOP to move in, but the actual demographics of social conservatives in the US make it very unlikely that the GOP will move in this mold (and in fact I expect it to be part of the Democratic coalition in a few decades). My guess is that the next GOP President will actually be rather non-Trumpy, but at the same time surprisingly aggressive/“threatening” in presentation, though note that because of their rules national Republican presidential primaries are very unpredictable contests.
