Minnesota may have the greatest ideological variety. An old school liberal Republican, a bland modern conservative and a hard right Tea Partier. Terrible showings for Ohio and Virginia, the two states that used to produce a lot of presidents.

Unless I'm mistaken, wasn't Virginia Pat Buchanan's home state as well?

91.Al Haig, Cabinet Secretary, 1988
92.Gary Bauer, Cabinet Under Secretary, 1996
93.Fred Karger, 2012

Bauer was Kentucky and Karger was California. Can't find anything on Haig except a nice mansion he bought in Virginia in 2006, where Biden also lived at one point interestingly enough. In 1988 he was the head of a consulting firm and a founding corporate director of AOL if that's any help.

Thanks!
Al Haig was career military, so I don't know where he's from in the United States, but in his adulthood, he's been all over. I don't know what he listed as his home state.

Al Haig was actually an incredibly impressive person, I don't know why he received so little support in 1988 other than he had never run for elective office previously and he challenged George H.W Bush's authority after President Reagan was shot saying "I'm in charge here."

In addition to being Reagan's Secretary of State, he had previously been Nixon's Chief of Staff where, despite Watergate and everything surrounding it, it was generally agreed that Haig had maintained his integrity. I believe Haig was first noticed by Nixon as the Army General stationed at the White House.
