Some liberal areas in the northeast ik have started to lax on topless women. In NYC women *can* be topless but I very rarely see it, even in sunbathing parks and whatever. Nantucket also allows women to go topless on all beaches, which suggests it’s not just young folks.

This is already legal in most states. In all the light blue ones it's legal.

But how is it a political thing? It's not illegal in most states.

It's actually legal for women in all of Canada to be topless in public due to a court ruling. Is Canada full of topless women in public? Most Canadians have probably never seen one in public.

It feels like something that was a big issue ~50 years ago on the left but never got close to majority support at its peak and it's no longer a big issue for the left today.

Believe it or not this was kind of a very minor "issue" in Minneapolis politics recently, a couple years ago the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board voted unanimously to lift a prohibition on women being topless in Minneapolis parks. On a related note, I wonder what would happen if Doc Hollywood was released today. Would there be more backlash? At the time, Dan Quayle complained about Murphy Brown being a single mother but not about a topless woman in a PG-13 movie.

I’ve never met a woman, liberal or otherwise, who has a desire to walk around topless.  Let’s stop treating the most rudimentary societal regulations on not being nude in public as any sort of oppression … sorry, but that should be the red flag that you’re not a genuine activist, you’re a bored loser who’s out of ideas.
