This probably will be mocked by many of the more ideological posters on this board, but I do indeed try to apply a bit more of a romantic "objective" view when doing this, especially for historical Presidents.  As one example, I don't particularly like Woodrow Wilson and I imagine I would have hated him at the time.  However, I genuinely like and admire the way historians evaluate him in documentaries and stuff that I have seen, and I try to emulate that.  With that said, these are not my favorite or the ones I agree with the most, they are my (incredibly vague) "best men at doing the job."  Of course ideology has to creep in at some point (i.e., Hitler was a very effective leader in the beginning, but his aims were so objectionable and morally bankrupt that this is negated), but I tried to be "unbiased," to the extent that exists ... the first three, including the order, seem incredibly obvious to me:

I appreciate the Grant vote, and he would easily be top 10 (and maybe top 5) of my "favorite" Presidents.  However, I could not overlook how little oversight he was able to exercise over the corruption in his administration, and I think it is fair that historians have "dinged" him for this.  I am glad, though, that his reputation has improved incredibly over the last 20+ years as his efforts to fight the KKK have come under a bit more of a spotlight.
