This happened at a bar last night. I just wanted to check my balance at the ATM. And this ATM didn't offer paper receipts or even a display one...just a "digital" one.

So...I had to go through all the standard card insert enter PIN stuff and then a QR code displayed on the screen. And thus I had to get out my phone, pull up a QR reading app, go through the ads and the screen asking me to rate it, and then get the camera working and calibrated in such a dark environment...only for the app to freeze up, had to be reopened...and then the QR code went away! So I did the exact same things again, and then finally got the camera on the QR code...and the app displayed me a bunch of junk text with the balance sort of hidden somewhere in there. It was obvious what it was but still...

Now how is this more convenient than just getting a slip of paper with it or having the number directly displayed on the screen? Even ignoring the phone troubles and having to restart it...it's like 10x more work for a lower quality result.
