The idea that we are entering a Third Republic has been a thing since at least 2013 (possibly before, but my memory is imperfect), but ironically I think this has fizzled out in recent years. I struggle to remember when was the last time the term appeared in a conversation I had, and I have political conversations quite often. I won't be surprised if this debate achieves renewed prominence now as a result of Berlusconi's death however.
