Similar question as the thread about the next GOP President.

I'll just throw out a name here: Wes Moore.

Probably someone we haven't heard of yet. It might be another 13 years before the next Democrat President takes office, assuming that Biden wins re-election and is followed by two-terms of a Republican President.

1 out of 3 Presidents are succeeded by their own Vice President, so by far the likeliest name is Kamala Harris. If it is not Kamala Harris, then it may well be someone who is fairly obscure today.

Kamala Harris ascends to the Presidency at some midpoint of a Biden 2nd term, but loses in 2028. The next elected Democrat is someone off the radar that comes in 2033 or 37 after one or two terms of a Republican President.

Warnock or Gallego both make sense to me.  I'd be surprised if its not a POC or woman.

Kamala Harris is the likeliest.

If anything happens to the octogenarian incumbent, she'll be President.

She's also the likeliest nominee in 2028.

If Biden wins in 2024, and serves two full terms, she'll be the overwhelming frontrunner for the nomination. Republicans can easily screw it up.
If Biden is unable to serve two full terms, she'll be President.
If Biden loses in 2024, she is still probably the most likely candidate to win the nomination in 2028, as a former Vice President and as a woman of color elected to national office.

It would be very hard for anyone to beat her in a primary.

It's possible that there won't be a next Democratic President for some time. If Biden wins in 2024, a Republican may win 2028 and 2032.

The Democrat who wins the 2036 primary might be well-known now, or it may be someone who hasn't been elected to office yet. It can very easily be a bunch of people. Warnock, Gallego, Buttigieg and Moore are plausible, as would be people who win in the 2030 midterms.

I doubt she'd be the likeliest to win the nomination after a Biden loss in 2024 as she would have the stench of that defeat on her.

The only way I see Kamala becoming President is if Biden dies in office. I don't think she can win the nomination in 2028 outright.

If Biden doesn't hand the reins to Kamala, there are plenty of Governors who could step up.

Newsom has been intentionally developing his profile, most recently with that interview with Hannity, and his feud with Desantis.

Whitmer has a decent profile too, she's the governor a swing state, she's been making a lot of noise about abortion, and out of all the female democrats I can think of off the top of my head, she's the most electable.

My governor Shapiro has a lot of years ahead to develop his image, He just had a major publicity victory with the reopening of I-95. If he can keep up the good work he might have a shot, considering how important Pennsylvania is electorally.
