What is it about your behavior that gives you away as being "low class" when you are with people of "better breeding"?

For me, its apparently the fact that I eat ketchup on my scrabbled eggs.  Apparently, only people of lower breeding would do such a thing... I acctually had a girl decline me for another date because I did this.

P.S.  Maybe you don't have anything.  Maybe you have the proper breeding... in which case, I congratulate you for being better than the rest of us.

Not to be flippant, but I've always thought this was more of an east coast thing.  I don't notice much of this sort of thing going on.

At worst, swearing, I guess.

I have a nasty habit (which fortunately I've managed to mostly stifle) of wiping my hands on my pants when it's something small.  I somehow think that Mr. Winston Kensingtonworth III, Esq. would probably not approve of such behavior.

What, ketchup on eggs or "breeding"?

Obviously, the west coast has no such thing as "low class" people.  We are all jolly old Englishmen in top hats and silk suits.

Say 'aye' not yes and 'ah' rather than I.

while I agree that ketchup on scrambled eggs (scrabbled?) sounds disgusting, I find it disturbing that you date girls that would reject someone based on this.  Btw, what kind of 'date' involved scrambled eggs, other than breakfast the morning after?

As for me, I'm far too unfailingly polite to be truly upper-class (petite bourgoeisie all the way).

It was an early date.  It was during the campaign, it was the only time we had together... so I took her out to breakfast... and that's when it ended.

It didn't end quite like that, she said "Yuck!  Only poor people do that."  And then she started bombarding me with questions about my family.

Haha, no.

But I've never really felt as if someone was judging my class level.  I know people much wealthier than I am, and some much poorer.  There's obvious stereotypes - living in trailers and everything - but behaviorally, I don't notice much of a difference.

That kind of sounds like you're better off without her, frankly.  She sounds like a bitch.

Putting ketchup excessively on food does evoke connotations of "white-trash," at least to me.

I can't think of anything.  Maybe in the North yankees might take my accent the wrong way.  It's not as if I use incorrect grammar or anything, however.

I don't chew gum so they're the only thing that I have to keep my breath in check (even though I brush my teeth three times a day).

Given that your name is "Preston Caldwell", I'd say it's probably the case that nothing gives you away as low class because you aren't low class. Tongue

That's pretty much what I was thinking.

Hilarious!  That's what you get for dating Republicans.

I thought of one more about myself - my complete lack of interest in sport/physical activity.

More than anything else, what gives me away as being working class (terms like lower class and so on are classist) is my accent. People can't work out whether I'm Welsh or English, but they can very, very easily work out that I'm not middle class...
Other things as well, but that's the main one.

Don't you get it Al, this is supposed to be classist... thats the point of this thread.  We should feel "less than".
