Quote
Fort Bragg, the U.S. Army base in North Carolina that is among the world's largest military installations, was formally renamed Fort Liberty on Friday, part of a broader effort to rechristen bases named for Confederate officers.

Last year, a commission created by Congress recommended new names for nine bases that honored Confederate officers, after the nationwide protests following the 2020 police killing of George Floyd prompted the military to re-examine its history through the lens of race.

Trump supporters aren't too fond of the last name Bragg these days, so they might not care.

Boring. This is like when a High School switches their mascot from Indians to Wildcats.

Cool that they got rid of the Bragg name but choosing Liberty as the new name is a bit corny.

'Liberty' is one of those lame colorless names you give to a WNBA team or a boring insurance company.  Name if after the guy who founded the site, William J. Snow.  As a compromise to his base, Biden can rename it Fort Snowflake.

There was something very funny about it being named for a man usually considered as the very worst general between, say, 1700 and the outbreak of the First World War.

What’s next? Are they going to rename the airport in the Las Vegas metropolitan area again just because Harry Reid made a comment about Obama’s accent or they dug up some questionable quotes or tweets of his?

Not sure why they removed the name of one of the men most responsible for the Union's victory in the civil war!

Anyway, good, but they certainly could have found a better name.

Yes saying a poor taste joke is the same as waging war against the United States government to persevere the right to own other people.

He really didn’t have much to Bragg about.

Could get confusing with documents because there was a Fort Sherman in Panama until 1999.

I did research that, and noticed the same thing. But I think it's been long enough now, that it would not be an issue.
