I'm pretty shocked at some of our Senators. Especially in the case of Pericles and a few others. Some of these folks brand themselves as effectively generic Democrats/center-left "normies" (as much as an Atlasian can be a "normie") who just want a social safety net (without greatly increasing state power), but apparently, this is a facade, created perhaps unintentionally, but perhaps intentionally to appear more moderate and to garner votes more easily. This, for one, is not something that RL Democrats support AFAIK, and this is especially the case for steel nationalization. For some who focus almost exclusively on attacking the right instead of saying what they are for, as Labor does in general, perhaps that is the goal--to avoid talking about one's extreme positions to win more easily. "Hey, hey, look at them! Not at me!" This is the Democratic playbook, after all. "We're not much but look at them!"

Well as you've ignored the compromise i proposed in the Atlasian Steel act, your unwillingness to coöperate or compromise shows that you're not behaving as one of the level headed right now.

Aside of that, this is the Republic of Atlasia, not the United States. What RL Democrats believe in doesn't matter. They don't exist here.

Sirius has made numerous examples of how it works in Europe (and i can testify). You seem to ignore that point completely, and oppose it out of principle. That's fine, you're allowed to have your own opinion and vote the way I want.

But i'll ignore your remarks, because I believe we have the votes needed to pass it. If you're not willing to compromise at all, i'm not obliged to keep listening to senators who already have indicated they'll oppose the bill no matter what.

I love the railway system in Belgium. It's superior to that of United Kingdom, Netherlands and Germany and they all have privatised their railway systems, we have nationalized it. The result is affordable public transport, whereas that's not the case in neighbouring countries.

It is essential to combat climate change, because a cheap public transport alternative can prevent people to take the plane instead or their car. And i'm not a motorist ideologically.

Railway systems should be suited for the working class. If no-one can afford a railway ticket, there's no need for a railway system at all, privatised or not. Rich people will continue to prefer the car or plane, whereas poorer people will also resort to car or plane, or prefer not to travel at all.

Our platform:

Quote
The Labor Party is a democratic socialist party dedicated to the idea that society should be structured in an equitable fashion. It believes that by the strength of our common endeavor we achieve more than we achieve alone, to create for all of us a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many, not the few.  We seek to build a society that reflects the spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect.

Affordable public transport is not contingent on nationalization, and there have been enough examples pointed out in the debate of nationalized public transport that does not work. I suppose those could have been ignored out of principle too.

Gonna need to change the thread title as well once you read this, Laki.

Those examples are an overwhelming minority, and of the private passenger rail carriers that exist, most of them operate on state owned railways, something which I have left as a possibility in my bill.

Nay.

In a perfect world perhaps increasing state control in general would be a good idea but the government is typically incredibly inefficient.
