I'll be opposing tearing up the progress we made in the Don't Encourage Drug Use Act

I'll also be opposing this. I can't support repealing a sales tax, or cutting an excise tax that brings in a significant portion of Lincoln's budget.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. This is a simple bill that (again) formally eliminates the unnecessary and economically unfair flat, sales tax in Lincoln. Furthermore, this ensures that the vice/excise tax does not equate to a tax of more than 25% on Lincolnites.

We are presently in a state of economic uncertainty with high energy prices, and a dangerous political outlook. The very last thing the families of Lincoln need is an additional fee on top of these new billing concerns.

I find this act highly useful. We can always return, change, increase or add taxes by the appropriate act. The measure proposed by Mr. Pyro will have a cumulative effect of restoring the well-being of our citizens, which will heal the region's economy and, as a result, help the regional budget.

Something that I have advocated for in the past is that regions should not be overly reliant on income and corporate tax. This happened a couple of years ago in Fremont, where income and corporate tax rates were absurdly and unrealistically high for a region. I urge the general court to consider this. And I know this obvious response, is that Lincoln has a surplus, but that does not mean that tax cuts are appropriate at this time. It would do Lincoln well to run a surplus for a while, until the next time a large stimulus is needed.

I'm afraid our surplus is in danger of being wiped out by the blow to the Lincoln economy after the South's self-isolation.
