I think we all saw what happened at the Kentucky Derby this past weekend, where seven different horses had to be euthanized due to injuries.

The fact is, horse racing is a cruel and dangerous sport, and this piece of legislation banning  here in Lincoln would be a massive step in the right direction for the protection of horses.

If the problem is euthanasia, I have a better suggestion

2. Horses undergoing horse racing must undergo physical examinations every 2 months and any abnormality shall result in the horse being banned from racing and being sent to live out the rest of its life in a nature preserve.

3. Violations of this act shall result in either up to one year in prison, or a fine of up to $5,000,000, and a lifetime prohibition of owning an animal.
