No Church of England, the UK remained Catholic

Let’s say there is never a Church of England, and that the British royals along with most Brits remained Roman Catholic. How different would history be?

I would think either the Catholicism holds to the present day as Great Britain becomes a naval superpower and carries over to the US (which looks and feels a lot more like Louisiana throughout and probably never has a West Coast due to friendlier relations with Spain), or (more likely IMO) the Catholic royalty and aristocracy fall to a low church Protestant revolt in the 1600's that's even larger than the English Civil War IRL.  In the second scenario, the UK would have a Reformed/Baptist majority in the long run and feel a lot more like the US South culturally.  The US wouldn't be that different except that the Evangelical movement would be a bit stronger earlier on.

FWIW I think US independence from Great Britain is inevitable as long as it happens before airplanes are invented.
