He might be a choice in a brokered convention...

Trump could well win all or nearly all delegates outside of maybe Utah, so I don't see that happening.

Youngkin isn't even able to win a primary for governor of Virginia, let alone a presidential one.

Saw it'd be a vanity campaign and decided wisely to not bother at the first place, he'll have his chance in 28 if Rs lose 24.

I doubt he was ever “in” in the first place

At least Democrats do not have to worry about Virginia.

I'd actually consider voting for "Becky with the Good Hair" for POTUS.

Even if not, the possibility of a brokered convention seems be talked in every election cycle, but never actually happens.

If the Convention is contested, and Youngkin is nominated, I wouldn’t mind. He’d be outright favored against Biden.

There isn't going to be a brokered convention. The GOP nomination isn't going to be close. If an indictment isn't going to stop Trump, nothing is

Pretty clear that Youngkin never had any serious presidential ambitions in the first place.  Since he's limited to only one term as governor, a 2024 run makes the most sense from a timing standpoint (i.e., he'd definitely be old news by 2028.)

So his only options for higher office now seem to be either being elected to the Senate (defeating Kaine in 2024?  or a run against Warner in 2026?) or getting appointed to a cabinet post in the next GOP admin

Kaine is more well liked than Warner, Trumpkin's most realistic next shot for a higher office is 2026. Especially in an open seat if Biden is re-elected.

My vibe is he liked the idea of running for president in 2024 but knew it was never a serious possibility.

He would have been one of the more formidable general election candidates, though there's no lane for him to run in. Even without Trump and DeSantis, I doubt he'd stand a chance. He might not even have won a 2021 primary in Virginia.

Youngkin would have had one of the best chances against Biden. Looks like Haley is their only hope now. DeSantis is toxic to secular voters.

Haley just seems good by GOP standards on papers and because her competition is a laughingstock.

Younkin should wait until 2028. I think he would have a much stronger coalition then.

I doubt he's still relevant by then unlike he upsets Kaine in 2024, which looks unlikely. He could be more of a VP contender or Treasury/Commerce secretary in a R-admin.

I mean I doubt she would win either. She's too sophisticated, southern, wonky and flip flops too much(the latter gives me Hillary Clinton/Mitt Romney vibes), but even with those things she would still at least have a prayer of winning the general because she doesn't have tons of scandals like Trump but also didn't pass a policy so far outside of the overton window like DeSantis. She's weaker than Generic R in other words but she's close enough to it that it might be enough if the economy is bad enough/some crazy event happens etc.
