This is very likely how George Wallace himself voted. I still have no clue why he would have turned against Bill Clinton after supporting the more liberal Mondale and Dukakis.

Either because he was extremely socially conservative at the time and Clinton may have offended him morally or because he was an opportunist who saw which way Alabama was headed politically. Given what he know about his history of opportunism there's a strong case to be made for the latter. I guess it depends on how sincerely you take his repentance.

I'm sure there's an unexpected high number of such voters in GA. Most likely white males in exurban or rural areas.

Probably a White working-class voter, most likely Catholic, with broadly populist, "anti-corruption," and socially conservative tendencies.
