It's often talked the Nixon pardon and/or Ford's debate gaffe cost him the 1976 election, but what about Reagan's primary challenge? What if he chose not to run against the sitting prez instead endorsed his bid for a full term in 1975? Does Ford pull it off given how close the election was? I believe it's possible Ford isn't forced to pick another VP.

Nelson Rockefeller chose to retire.

I guess Gerald Ford loses by a very narrow (think 2000) electoral vote margin.

Nelson Rockefeller chose to retire.

I guess Gerald Ford loses by a very narrow (think 2000) electoral vote margin.

Rockefeller was pushed aside. He just publically stated it was his decision, but in reality he was essentially dropped in the Halloween massacre in November 1975 as Ford was under pressure from Reagan. Ford later admitted that droping Rocky was one of "few dumb things I've done".
