Happy to report the number of missiles fired at the Jeddah F1 circuit by Yemeni separatists in 2023 is down 99% compared to 2022.

Oscar Piastri, the new F1 driver from Australia is also performing well:
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-03-19/oscar-piastri-starts-eighth-for-f1-saudi-arabia-grand-prix/102115610

But the big news is Fernando Alonso, who, at the age of 40, has qualified on the front row for tonight's Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cp87Ex5IKnz/

Lewis Hamilton complained briefly about the human rights abuses of the home country, but was quickly summoned to the stewards office, and told to drop it.

World Champion Max Verstappen starts 15th, and although he has won races from there in the past (essentially by overtaking 7 people on the first lap), I think tonights race will see Verstappen get in an accident trying to cut through the field.

He is too pushy, and at some stage, one of the drivers in 1st-14th position is going to block him, and he is not going to like it, throw his car in anyway in a game of chicken, and bin two cars.

(Fernando Alonso - Formula 1)

Most of the F1 Universe will be going for Fernando Alonso to win his first race since the Triassic period. The F1 internet sphere will go into meltdown if he does.

The Red Bull is on a different class of its own. Going to be a short and boring season.

Alonso got robbed.

As for Red Bull, if you ignore them, some of the other racing will be great.

Ferrari and Alpine a little underdone compared to Mercedes and Aston Martin.

McLaren have fallen off a cliff.

Lewis Hamilton does not sugar coat it

https://edition.cnn.com/2023/03/20/motorsport/lewis-hamilton-red-bull-fastest-f1-car-spt-intl/index.html

His chances of taking another F1 World Championship, let alone another win, are rapidly diminishing.

Does he know what kinds of cars he's driven? The 2014 W05 would pull 2 seconds a lap and had to be nerfed to hide its true pace. The 2020 Mercedes was on another level to the field!

Hell, the 2016 car lost only two races, and neither was on the merit of pure pace.

Max Verstappen starts the Australian F1 Grand Prix in 1st Place. Recrod crowds this weekend with 450,000 attendees.

https://www.grandprix.com.au/

But the Mercedes of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton will be desperate to get in front in the early stages.

And we have a resurgent Fernando Alonso right behind them.

Formula 1 Sprint Race is about to start.

According to the meme, Jos Verstappen refused to celebrate when his son Max was beaten by team mate Sergio Perez in Jeddah.

He probably feels the same way after today's result in Baku.

Baku F1 Grand Prix 2023

AISEL

Azerbaijan National Anthem

https://youtu.be/QFiX2mLbPYs

Beautiful. The best anthem on the planet. Even Max looked impressed.

They always put a lot of effort into their anthem. They had the best presentation last year as well.

Baku F1 Grand Prix 2022

Azerbaijan National Anthem

https://youtu.be/m770lE3YfA0

A stark contrast to events from two races ago.

Jeddah F1 Grand Prix 2023

Saudi Arabian National Anthem

https://youtu.be/QEGTbpoqQIs

George Russell is having a laugh in the background.

The weird thing about the Saudi race is it had only two grandstands. And they didn't sell out.

Women will have their own stand-alone F1 race championship in 2024 which simultaneously occurs on the same track and weekend as the main F1 series.

https://the-race.com/junior/f1s-new-all-female-series-wont-be-broadcast-live/

6 races this year will be held, but not broadcast until the final event in Texas.

What is even the argument for a separate championship for women here?

What is even the argument for a separate championship for women here?

The Mercedes boss Toto Wolff is married to an aspiring F1 driver, Susie, but she never made it into F1. Now Toto is wealthier than all the other F1 bosses combined (billionaire).

The CEO of F1, Stefano Domenicali, has been trying for some time to grow the sport in other areas including new regions and new people distinct from the normal F1 crowd. Evidently, Toto, Stefano and Susie have sat down and come up with a plan of getting women into the main F1 series.

Susie Wolff was recently named the CEO of the newly formed F1 Academy.

The women's series had their first run on the weekend (unfilmed) at A1 Ring in Formula 4 cars. Next year, they will run F2 and F3 cars.

https://www.f1academy.com/

The academy picked woman from UAE, China, France, Spain, Uruguay, Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, UK and Canada.

Running it on the same weekend is genius as no extra tickets are necessary.

The main F1 is not exclusively male, but it is at present. Back in the 1970's an Italian woman managed 17 races and scored some points.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lella_Lombardi

Lella also raced in the Daytona 500.

Miami Grand Prix on today.

First time we have had all Spanish speaking drivers qualify 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

This will be the most exciting race for the year as Hamilton starts 13th, Verstappen starts 9th and LeClerc starts 7th meaning we will most likely see a Perez or Alonso on the top step.

Certainly, the order of qualifying is jumbled after LeClerc binned it into the wall causing mayhem in the last 2 minutes of qualifying.

Elon Musk dropped in and he and his son X met Max Verstappen (Facebook)

Elon Musk talked to Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner and suggested a Grand Prix with purely electric cars.

Christian replied "They already have Formula E which is fully electric".

And now we've had our first in-season race call off since Melbourne 2020, the Emilia-Romagna GP has been called off due to the absolutely horrific flooding emergency occurring in the region, thankfully they've dealt with this one much more swiftly and appropriately than back in 2020

@Meclazine,
Former Formula 1 Driver Sebastian Vettel has joined SailGP as Co-Owner of the Germany SailGP Team Franchise!

How about that! I did not see this coming! There seems definitly some crossover between F1 and SailGP!

Sainz hanging on for dear life in front of the Italian fans.

Verstappen looking to go for 10 races in a row, a new record.

What a race.

Many races in 2023 were boring because Max Verstappen always wins easily, but in Monza, today, at least there were disputes for other places, like the duel of the 2 Ferraris in the end

Apparently, Helmut Marko, head of Red Bull has come out and said that the reason why his Mexican driver Sergio Perez cannot keep up with his team mate, Dutch World Champion Max Verstappen, is because Sergio is "South American".

I will wait until I have a reputable media outlet that put's the quote in writing.

He also apologized immediately afterwards.

Qualifying at Singapore.

1st place beat 2nd by 7 100th's of a second.

2nd place beat 3rd by 7 1,000th's of a second.

The gaps in this sport now are insanely close.

Singapore is such a cool place to watch Formula 1.
