Wait, so....

he is 100% getting arrested now, correct? Unless Florida won't extradite him (lol) or unless he flees the country... r8ght? Somebody please help me out here.

The plan is he turns himself in, in New York on Monday. He'll be fingerprinted and photographed (mug shot). Since it's a felony he should be put in handcuffs but they might make an exception for him for that. He'll be arraigned. And then he'll be released without any bail set since it's a non violent offense.

This is TERRIBLE for the country. An arrest for anything other than Jan 6th is way too far!

Which is it?
A) Trump is innocent.
B) Trump is above the law.

This should tell us what the GOP Establishment is thinking. If they're not simply saying "the legal process should continue as followed" then they're not subtly telling people to support somebody else. That's more bad news for DeSantis.

But there should be more indictments for the more serious crimes, so I guess we'll see. When this is over we'll probably have triple-digit charges.

There's a whole lot of "witch hunt" and "this is wrong" going on in thie thread, but a bizarre absence of "he's innocent" to accompany it.

They believe politicians are above the law.

Obviously not a lot to go on, but this sounds like it'll cover more than just Stormy Daniels.

Also can we talk about the absolute nerve and hypocrisy of claiming to be the victim of a politicized justice system when you literally started your entire political career calling for your opponent to be 'locked up'?

God this is all just such sweet, sweet justice in more ways than one.

Which is sad, because the ability to hold current and former leaders accountable is a sign of good government, not bad government.

I've been living in a natpark in Cali so I don't get the opportunity to post here as much, but I would like to extend my best wishes to all, even the haters and losers, on this very special day of Trump's indictment.

McCarthy is the GOP establishment?  He is Trump's boy...we'll see what other Republicans in Congress say.  I doubt McConnell or most Senate Republicans will come to a full-throated defense of Trump, for example.

34 counts kinda implies that this isn't some random nitpicky witch-hunt.

I think a lot of them are just scared of fat Republicans rioting again. They're scared of that and also scared of red states making fake charges against Democrats, maybe. Either way, I don't find it compelling. The president should not be allowed to break the law without consequence.

What else is he? I wouldn't think McCarthy wants Trump on the ballot the same day his razor-thin House majority is. Maybe he kisses up more for the speakership, but the Senate's different. I don't expect much from McConnell though who's clearly shown to be more agitated at Trump. And unlike McCarthy he's a hated-enough figure to cause some more backlash.

Where did they get this number Huh
Imo, a majority of it has to be linked to Middle Eastern wars.

Idk why people think this would ensure Trump wins the GOP nomination…if a wave of indictments from this, GA, etc, keep dropping I really do think a plurality of Republican voters will defect to Desantis, Scott, or Pence.

My personal opinion on this - and I've said it many times before - is that the indictment(s) absolutely helps trump. Republican base voters have shown time and again that they are very receptive to the persecution/martyrdom angle from their politicians, especially when it's trump. trump will play his base like a fiddle over this. Also, none of trump's opponents in the primary are going to try to use this against him b/c they are cowards, so when is it going to hurt him? Republicans have shown time and again they don't care about people breaking the law when those people are republicans.

Not necessarily. A lot of them could be really similar misdemeanors and he gets probation with all of them running concurrently. Also, with 34 counts I think it's more likely than not there will be a several acquittals and/or deadlocks even though I think he'll probably be convicted on falsifying business records with respect to the hush money.

Nope. We were expecting a felony charge for falsifying business records and possibly some related charges but no one was predicting this many counts.

DeSantis says Florida wouldn’t aid Trump’s extradition to New York.

Quote
Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, who is widely expected to challenge Donald J. Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, called the indictment of Mr. Trump “un-American” and said that his state “will not assist in an extradition request” should one come from New York authorities.

Earlier this month, Mr. DeSantis took two days after Mr. Trump inaccurately predicted an imminent arrest to comment, and at the time he demurred on the potential role that he or his state — home to Mr. Trump, who lives at Mar-a-Lago, his private club in Palm Beach — would play in potentially extraditing Mr. Trump to New York.

Just now from the NYT; God that's a crazy headline to even be reading.
