I believe that the special election for the District Three Senate Seat formerly held by Senator Texasgurl (resigned on July 4th) is required by the constitution to be held this weekend.

Although the website hosting the constitution is currently unavailable, I believe the wording is something to the effect of "a special election must be held in the week after the seat becomes vacant" which would mean that the election is due to be held this weekend.

The candidates will be:

Fritz (D-MN)
PBrunsel (R-IA)
DemRepDan (AFIP-IL)

By the way, who should administer the election?

We Want PBrunsel for Senate! Best of luck to all the candidates though. (Thank you JFK for posting the candidates. I've been wondering who the D would be.)

Phil, you cannot honestly tell me you did not know I was a candidate.  My name is even mentioned in a post you quoted where you asked that question:

I wish PBrunsel well and give him my support! Fritz is also a good guy, so here's to a clean campaign!

Not that I get to vote in it or anything... Smiley

THanks WMS, you are a good guy too. Smiley

Pity I can't vote in this one, but I hope to see you in the Senate - I think you'd do well there. Wink

Agreed. I think PBrunsel will make it to the Senate but who is running against him?

I had also posted several times in PBrunsel's thread, before you asked this question, and my candidacy had been referred to.  By the way, here is my own Announcement of candidacy thread.

John F Kennedy:

Turning to the crisis at hand, we need to have a special election in district 3.  I would imagine the 2 other candidates in this race share my frustration in not knowing when this election will take place.  Traditionally, the Secretary of Forum Affairs conducts elections.  But I can find no constitutional requirement that this be the case.  I am wondering if perhaps the Supreme Court, or the Vice-President, can take charge of this matter, in the absence of both the President and a cabinet.

Per the constitution: "If any district Senate seat becomes vacant, a special election shall be held within one week to fill in the vacancy."  Senator Texasgurl officially resigned July 4, the constitution therefore mandates the election be held no later than this Sunday, July 11.  I am not advocating that this actually be the time frame.  At this point in time, I feel it would be unfair both to the candidates and to the voters to hold an election on such short notice.

I call upon the Supreme Court to rule upon how to handle this situation.

Thank You,
Fritz

Yes, the constitution does indicate the election be held this weekend.  But as you have pointed out, there is no one to administer the election.  It will be wholly unfair, both to the candidates and the voters, to attempt to hold the election this weekend with no prior notice.  PBrunsel and I had discussed having a debate, and we both agreed to hold off until we knew when the election would be held.  This is why I have asked the Court to decide when the election will be held, and who will administer it.

Atlas members, please forgive me if my recent posts appear snippy or bitter.  This is supposed to be all in fun, and perhaps I take this all a little too seriously at times.  Smiley

Actually, Verin's idea of the governor administering the election is not bad.  If no Sec. of FA comes forward and is announced, then Verin should do it, since he is governor of most of the states in question.

I'll have to check again. I won't get an instant messenger because my father is afraid they will give us a lot of spam, so me and my brothers and sisters do not have any instant messenger.

I don't understand how it would give you a lot of spam? You could just sign up to a hotmail e-mail account for msn which means any spam would go to that rather than home e-mail addresses.
