People talking about music is good - I wish other members of this forum talked about their music tastes

impromptu Election Day 2022 Florida playlist

https://cityofulthar.wordpress.com/2009/01/31/deconstructing-the-ideocube/

At some point during my NationStates playing career, I decided to do my take on Deconstructing the Ideocube, and make 8 puppets that exist solely to have the 8 most extreme government categories. NationStates' government categories are based on various thresholds for personal, political, and economic freedoms, so that each type of freedom has 3 possible ratings (high, medium, low), for 27 possible government categories.

To give my 8 nation puppets some character, I chose specific world culture/civilizational themes for each of them that don't necessarily reflect historical and modern-day preferences for certain freedoms in certain countries. This is probably evident in the choices of flags and slogans- although I'm not trying to make any political statements by giving my China/Confucianist Asia-themed and India/Subcontinent-themed puppets diametrically opposed political orientations, for example. (Also- Flora Formosa, Tr3kist3n, Fcukyuh, and Merinelle are revamped versions of puppets I made in high school.)

I'm posting this today ahead of Valentine's Day to share a little more about my NationStates persona with y'all, and to share eclectic music from playlists I made for each of my Ideocube puppets. Only three of the playlists correspond to a coherent cultural region of the world, but they all reflect a certain mood/vibe that I associate with the ideologies and ideas each puppet represents.

For each puppet I'm sharing one V-Day themed song that fits the playlist's vibe but isn't in the playlist, and one song from the playlist that I feel complements the V-Day themed song.

The descriptions below are taken directly from my Instagram post: https://www.instagram.com/p/CSKo5g7BMo7/

Yuunxim: Free-Market Paradise (low personal, high political + economic). Paleoconservative, non-WEIRD society that’s also vaguely pro-Americana. Hence the Yuunxim playlist being a mix of MURICAN and non-Confucianist Eastern Asia tracks.

Merinelle: Anarchy (high all- high economic without private industry). Utopian island paradise. Playlist is generally upbeat and positive, with bright instrumentals.

Cyunzit: Iron Fist Socialists (high personal, low political + economic- no private industry). Excessively social justice/idpol-oriented hellhole regime that appropriates critical race theory and liberation theology for its own purposes. Contains a smattering of third-world instrumental tracks, but mostly consists of parody songs and #woke culture songs.

Alixen: Corporate Police State (low personal + political, high economic). Eco-fascism with Mediterranean motifs. A blend of English and non-English songs in languages native to the Mediterranean.

Tr3kist3n: Tyranny by Majority (low personal + economic, high political). A communitarian, Hindutva inspired theocratic democracy with marks of right-wing populism. All but 2 songs in this playlist are by South Asian artists- see if you can spot the outliers!

Flora Formosa: Benevolent Dictatorship (high personal + economic, low political). Basically a socially liberated and woke dictatorship with Confucian cultural mores. Tracks represent the linguistic diversity of Confucianist Asia- there are 3 Chinese languages and 3 non-Chinese languages featured.

Qibla: Left-Wing Utopia (high personal and political, low economic). A culturally Scandinavian/WEIRD technocratic social-democratic utopia. Playlist is mostly mellow ambient electronic tracks, with some instrumental anime OSTs and Scandinavian/European artists thrown in

Fcukyuh: Psychotic Dictatorship (low all). A Brave New World-style dystopia with a Latin American caudillo-inspired cult of personality. Most songs are in Spanish, all but one feature artists/musical groups with Latin American roots.

Yuunxim tracks:
Justin Timberlake- "Not a Bad Thing"

Daniel Padilla and Morissette- "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" (cover)

Merinelle:
Maroon 5- "She Will Be Loved"

Yuna, Tyler, The Creator - "Castaway"

Cyunzit:
The Cimarons - "Ethiopian Romance"

CUCO x CLAIRO - "DROWN" [partial Spanish]

Alixen:
Inez- "My Love" [Arabic]

Bog Bog Orkestar- "Isidora" (from Just Dance) [Serbo-Croatian]

Tr3kist3n:
Haricharan-
"Kaatru Veesum" (from Neram) [Tamil]

Sheela Bringi- "Krishna Govinda Bhajan" ("cover")

Flora Formosa:
美秀集團 Amazing Show-"戀人 Lovers" [Mandarin]

Eiko Shimamiya- "宇宙の花 Uchuu no Hana" [Japanese]

Qibla:
Zedd, Griff - "Inside Out"

Laleh- Return to the Soil

Fcukyuh:
Selena - "Amor Prohibido" [Spanish]

Trío Los Santos- "Jacaranda" [Spanish]

Wait, so is Merinelle governed by biker gangs, or is the economy dominated by state-run industries? (Or is the state which runs the industries itself run by biker gangs?)

(Or am I supposed to judge these countries by the tracks rather than by their ideologies and descriptions? In that case it'll take me a second to listen to these and consider them individually.)

I never thought about it that deeply. These puppets exist solely for the purpose of having certain NS stat values that fulfill certain conditions. The game parameters are such that nations that allow private enterprise can have an Economic Freedom ranking between 0-100, while nations that do not can have a ranking between -100-0. A "socialist" nation can still have "high" economic freedom if its stat is between -33.0 and 0.0, while a "capitalist" nation would need to have a stat above 67.0

Vote on whatever metric(s) you want (here's a visualization tool with a drop-down list of NS stats to compare for the 8 nations), I just added a poll because this is Atlas.

Yuunxim: 30.33 Civil, 72.19 Political, 69.56 Economic
Merinelle: 76.17 Civil, 74.48 Political, -29.44 Economic
Cyunzit: 76.28 Civil, 28.19 Political, -71.00 Economic
Alixen: 33.89 Civil, 28.19 Political, 71.33 Economic
Tr3kist3n: 24.92 Civil, 76.48 Political, 31.44 Economic
Flora Formosa: 72.83 Civil, 21.96 Political, 68.78 Economic
Qibla: 77.78 Civil, 76.67 Political, 31.22 Economic
Fcukyuh: 30.89 Civil, 28.76 Political, 32.56 Economic

Merinelle seems like the best deal from a standard-of-living perspective, I guess (highest standard of living, extensive political and social freedoms and opportunities to make the state even better), though I think if I lived in that society I would end up as kind of a cranky complainer.

Will go through the music over a long period of time and report back about that.

Spoiler alert! Click Show to show the content.

Bringing in the NOVA Green energy with more tracks from my playlists because why the hell not? Sorry not sorry for the spam. Each set of 2-3 YouTube videos is in spoilers; some of the selections feature un-prudish content, religious worship, and/or blatantly partisan content that may upset certain Leipverse members Wink

Poll results so far:

Tr3kist3n vote from a D-avatar
Yuunxim vote from an O-avatar
Fcukyuh vote from a G-avatar
Qibla vote from a S-avatar

Update based on partisan breakdown:

2 votes for Tr3kist3n (1 D-avatar, 1 R-avatar)
3 votes for Yuunxim (1 O-avatar, 1 R-avatar, 1 L-avatar)
1 vote for Fcukyuh (1 G-avatar)
1 vote for Qibla (1 S-avatar)

Guess the Republicans on here really like Beyoncé, Boyz II Men, Singapore, and Shah Rukh Khan. (Or maybe they're just Crypto-Trumpists idk)

More selections from each playlist-

Yuunxim: (I strongly prefer Would It Matter to this Skillet song, but it fits the playlist better IMO)

Merinelle:

Cyunzit:

Alixen:

Tr3kist3n:

Flora Formosa: (yes this is an Atlas reference)

Qibla:

Fcukyuh: (Atlas reference)

Am considering adding Naatu Naatu from RRR to my playlists, not sure if it fits Tr3kist3n or Cyunzit better.

This song from Black Panther 2 could also go with Fcukyuh or Cyunzit.

Here's a song that could go either with Alixen or Cyunzit.

And this song from EEAAO could fit in Merinelle or Qibla.

Felt like updating this thread with songs that aren't in any of the playlists but fit the theme

Fcukyuh: Jesse y Joy- ¡Corre! (feat. La Republika) | Bachata remix

Alixen: Jidanofu - Drink A Yak

Yuunxim: Laufey- From the Start (just because it's in English)

Tr3kist3n: RRR Soundtrack- Raamam Raaghavam (too lazy to find something not from RRR)

Flora Formosa: Hoàng Thuỳ Linh - See Tình

Cyunzit: Mes Aïeux- Dégénération

Qibla: Roosevelt- Sign

Merinelle: Lemaitre - Tree House (feat. Ruben)
