Not in terms of age, but when they were born.

By that measure it would be my great-grandmother who was born in 1893 and died in 1994 at age 101.  She was the only person I knew who was born in the 19th century, which is pretty rare for someone my age (I was born in the 1970s).

My grandmother is still alive in her 90s, she's the oldest I can think of.

EDIT: I misunderstood the question, sorry didn't read fully. I met a couple people born in the 1800s. I didn't really "know" them though, just met them briefly one time as a kid. They were even older than my grandma is now too. Earliest age of anyone I've actually "known" for any length of time was probably my grandma's friend who was born in... I'm not sure exactly what year, but some time in the 1910s, died around 2012.

I guess in most cases it would be a grandparent or great-grandparent.

Oldest person I know now (and longest lived) is my wife's grandmother who was born in 1916 and will be 107 in April!

I have zero memories of her but my great-great grandmother, born in 1915 and died in 2004.

Define "known". Apparently I was held by one of my great-grandmothers as a baby born in the 1800s but she also died when I was 2 and I have no memory of her. Also my first babysitter, one of my parents' friend's mother, is still alive, and when she babysat me she was recently retired and newly eligible for Social Security! (Yes she's 104.) But it's a stretch to say I "know" her and probably haven't met her for well over 20 years.

My living grandmother and living grandfather are both in their 90s though.

My great-grandfather was born in 1908, and I did meet him as a baby, but I was too young to remember and he died shortly after. The oldest I actually know is probably my dad’s godfather (I used to visit him pretty much every summer when I was young — not so frequently recently, but I did see him last summer for the first time in quite a while), who was born in 1925 and still seems to be going pretty strong for a 97 year old.

I personally wouldn't even know if my grandmother or grandfather are still alive (on both sides). No-one would literally tell me if they died. So i don't know if they're alive or not.

I probably wouldn't even know if my mom is alive or dead. Maybe i would know if like because a notary or authorities would let me know in that case (i guess?), so they're most likely alive. Not at the age to be expected dead too.

My earliest memory of someone dying was when my great aunt passed away at age 91.  She must have been born in about 1902.

My grandfather was born in 1874, and died in 1961 when I was 10 years old. I don't recall meeting anyone older.

Oddly, the same is true for me.  There is a photo of one of my great-grandmothers holding me as a baby.  She was born in 1874 and died when I was 1 or 2.

However, I knew one of my other great-grandmothers well; we lived quite close to her when I was a kid.  She was born in 1889 and died when I was a teenager.

This kind of reminds me of the news story when the last person alive born in the 19th century died. My parents were visiting then and I was riding with them when I got a news alert about it and mentioned it. That's when my parents let me know of my great-grandmother and that she was born in the 19th century too (although it was something like 1898), the thought that I was in contact with such a person was kind of mind blowing even if I can't remember it. It's like the fact that the last surviving witness of the Lincoln assassination lived long enough to be interviewed about it on TV.

Something else to consider: There were Revolutionary War veterans still alive during the Civil War. And there's people alive today who saw that guy on TV. That means the entire history of the country is covered by just three "super-generations."

I too find it remarkable that I had a living connection to anyone born in the 19th century.  My great-grandmother had lived for more than 40 years as a widow.  Her daughter, my paternal grandmother was born in 1914 died in the same year, 1994, at age 80.  She was in very good health and it was pretty shocking to the family.

Second oldest person I knew was my paternal grandfather, born 1903 and died in 1988.  So born just after the turn of the century.

My great-grandmother (born 1911, died 2005)

In terms of how long they lived:
My grandmother (other side of the family, born 1924, died 2022)

My great-grandma was born in 1900 and died on Christmas day 2001. I have one memory of her even though she died when I was just under 3 years old because I was scared of her lol.
