So glad that the new GOP majority is focused on the important things!

My understanding was that DirecTV didn't want to end the relationship but Newsmax wanted somewhere in the ballpark of 10 to 20 million dollars (based on number of subscribers). It was a business decision based on profit. Republicans demanding this business not have the right to make it's own deals to make or lose profit flies in the face of all common Republican talking points about big government and overregulation.

I think basically everybody in the new Republican majority ran on 'investigating politically motivated censorship', and this seems like plausibly an example of that (even if, as T'Chenka points out, alternative explanations exist). Seems like they're at least trying to keep their promises and you simply don't like those promises.

And even if this were an ideologically-based decision, there is no legal basis to force DirecTV to carry Newsmax. It's an absurd premise.

That idea no longer exists in the Republican Party. They want to regulate somethings out of existence.

Great to see how Republicans immediately go to work to tackle inflation, secure the border, support law enforcement and reduce crime.

It's quite common for both DirecTV and Dish Network to drop channels due to fee disputes.  Usually they're able to work it out and the channel returns, but not always.

Did he mention if anyone will be changing the soiled diapers of Republican House members once they're done with this tantrum over not getting everything their way? Or  will that need to wait until the Dems run  the chamber again?

Because swing voters are totally going to be motivated by what a private business decides to do. Nice going and as long as the GOP nominee is tied to McCarthy, then Biden might become the first president since George W. Bush to improve on his initial performance barring anything drastic.

Shouldn't the Republicans let the free market deal with this? If people care so much about newsmax they don't have to keep DirecTV.

Republicans are only for certain things when it suits them politically, or just pretend to be for something because it fits into nice slogan. They're as much pro free market as they're fiscally conservative and supportive of law enforcement. Unfortunately it seems still too many people are getting fooled by them.

Yeah, it's pretty clear by now that Republicans will turn the Oversight Committee into a clown show.
Next thing you know they'll investigate political handicappers to explain why they rate X race as toss up instead of Safe R.

k.

It's been noted several times already, but the House of Representatives is going to be completely irrelevant for the next two years.  Whatever they want to do to fill that time and pretend they're justifying their paychecks is fine; nothing they say or do ultimately matters one bit.

I have to applaud him for admitting Babbitt got what was coming to her (note, I did not say it's what she deserved).

There's a lot of anger and loathing in the Republican party, including towards its own leaders.
So yes in fact.
