A National Review article about the sickness of the current GOP:

http://www.nationalreview.com/kob/obeirne200407070839.asp

Just a few weeks ago I had made the very same criticism about the GOP convention as O'Beirne does. From the article:

"The decision to showcase rogue elephants as representatives of the modern Republican party is not the mark of a self-confident party establishment"

Which is why I expect Bush/Cheney to lose by a decisive margin this November. The Republicans never win when they run away from their core beliefs.

What about '72?

And what about Zell Miller?  He appeals to the Conservative base.

I've yet to see a Pug sufficiently in shape to run from, or towards, anything, save Vietnam.  Pray, what are "core" beliefs?  Is book burning among them?

And what the hell is a Pug?

Anyway, I disagree with the article.  Arnold, Rudy, and McCain are the three most popular politicians in America, we had damn well ought to point out that all three support Bush.

What of digital clocks?

- Alfie

One of three things:

1- They break and show no time.  At this point it is less a clock and more a paperweight.

2- They reset to 12:00 and start keeping time from there.  In this case it is not stopped but inaccurate.

3- They just show 12:00 all the time, usually flashing.  In this case it is stopped and right twice a day.

Then you got some funky clocks.

I think they are trying to tell you that you are the anti-christ.

I suggest calling a priest.

And, in a sad and pathetic attempt to be on topic, the Republicans are trying to run to the middle with teh convention, which is probably a good thing in a highly polarized nation.  By having peopel from other areas of the political spectrum come in and endorse Bush it makes him more appealing to middle of the road voters.

The far left line up of the democrats is not going ot help them with teh centrists.

I disagree with the article as well. Giuliani ,Swarzenegger and others are major political figures in the party it would make no sense not to have them there imho.

Besides aren't the democrats always saying that the religious right rules the GOP? Isn't this a great way to show that there are Republicans who are middle of the roaders and that centrist thinking isn't a Democrat controlled monopoly?

You have got to be joking!  “Centrists” in the Pug party are treated nearly as poorly as prisoners in Abu Ghraib.  “Centrists”?  As the party lurches to the right of… of… (think WWII) of… of… heil – I can’t think of the guys name… but lurch it does.  Why, your Very Own Brethren, Storebought, posted:

I read an article to which “storebought” had linked.  Disturbing is the word which comes to mind:

“If the lineup is intended to make an overwhelmingly conservative party attractive to swing voters, it does so by pretending to be something it's not.

Conservative Republicans should be asking why senators like Rick Santorum and Sam Brownback aren't enjoying the same public embrace as the New York Times' favorite Republican.”

Really?  Americans should wonder why they are in office.  American Taliban is what these two… these two… sh!t!  (think of WWII)… it was a political party… what was it called? Well, THAT”S who these two freaks bring to mind.

I think you guys OUGHT to showcase your menagerie of freaks and perverts: come on, Pugs, show America your freaks!

Alfie,

Thanks for confirming what I've thought for such a long time which is you're a troll. I could argue with you which is what I was orginally going to do, but arguing with you would be a waste of time and energy based on your other posts which prove you have nothing to do but post senseless gibberish about "chicken hawk this, chickenhawk that" and have nothing really constructive to say about anything.

So I'll end this post with saying I hope you'll have an open mind and contribute to this forum in a positive way someday Alfie but sadly that doesn't seem likely.

Bull,

I have no problem with the ideas of the center-right Rockefeller Republicans. The problem is these are the same part of the party that for many many years let themselves get slapped around by the Democrats in congress. When we finally decided to fight back then you guys started to back off the party. The Republicans were held down for years in Congress and we have every right to fight back to gain seats.

We didn't get slapped around in congress...

all those years the south voted yellow dog...since 94 they've essentially voted republican...hence the change in power.
