That may be a bit easier, as Alberta should get a new electoral map before next election.

I'm not sure about that - the current map is very new and was passed just before the 2019 election.

They get a new map every 2 elections. Elections Alberta says there should be a new redistribution commission appointed as early as this year.

With that said, Alberta's current redistricting law makes the processes susceptible to partisan gerrymandering if a government is so inclined. The law allows for deviations up to the constitutional maximum of +/- 25% from the quotient for all ridings.* Additionally, the panel is made up of two appointees of the Premier, two of the leader of the opposition, and one (the chair) of the Speaker, which effectively gives the governing party a 3-2 majority on the panel. This majority has been used relatively subtly in the past few redistributions, but the UCP could use it this time around to preserve the current urban/rural split, or if they were really ballsy, even take ridings away from Calgary and Edmonton.

*The law allows for up to four districts with up to -50% if the districts meet certain criteria - there are only two in this category right now and both are in the far north, but there was a push last time to get Drumheller-Stettler in the depopulating rural southeast included as a special consideration district

Not exactly a surprise, but the three MLAs who were backing Pancholi have all moved their endorsements to Nenshi. Nenshi now has the support of 9 sitting MLAs, compared to 8 for Ganley, 4 for Hoffman, and 2 for Calahoo Stonehouse.

Any hint if Hoffman or Calahoo Stonehouse will step aside?
It looks like it will come down to Nenshi and Ganley, for either one, this would be the first NDP leader to represent a Calgary seat... ever (Nenshi running in Calgary is a safe assumption)

Let's face it, this race is going to come down to... Nenshi. There's no way anyone else will be able to win.

It wasn't a debate really as there was a lot of agreement and one candidate building on what the previous candidate said. So, it was more of a difference of presentation.

Sarah Hoffman tried to force 'debate' by calling out Naheed Nenshi a couple times, but, to me anyway, sounded desperate.

Gil McGowan also went after Nenshi once questioning him for not having policy even though they actually all presented similar policies, but McGowan was surprisingly knowledgeable on all the issues brought up and is clearly highly intelligent. In his closing comments he even mentioned a number of times when a business leader and a federal Liberal cabinet minister later told him they thought they'd have to fight with him but he was completely on top of the issues and worked collaboratively with them and he said they ended up saying to him "you're not what I expected."

Any one of them, including the rookie MLA Jodi Calahoo Stonehouse, who was also well versed on the issues presented and is also clearly highly intelligent (the moderator mentioned none of the candidates knew the issues in advance) would be a huge improvement over the glib power mad lunatic Danielle Smith.

The positive thing is that by 2027 it's very unlikely Danielle Smith will have the Federal Liberals to use as a foil to explain away her disastrous tenure.

I'd be into it, but I'm a Sabres fan.

...what's a playoff?
