There were several Strickland-Romney counties in Appalachia

Interestingly, those Appalachian counties in Southern Ohio also swung, unlike most of Appalachia (and the country), to the left in 2012, with Obama doing a bit better in 2012 than 2008 (though he did lose all the counties in both 2008 and 2012 - including Pike, which Romney won by a single vote in 2012).

Of course, all those counties are solid red now (to look at Pike again, it was McCain+1 and Romney+0.01, but since then, it's been Trump+38 and then Trump+49).
