Santos leaving the chamber with MTG!!

They were chatting earlier. I guess we know now what that chat led to.

Yeah, they're "having congress" right now to see if their kid will be born before a Speaker is elected. The baby will then be the compromise choice.

Santos offered to show Greene his Jew-ish Space Laser, which he designed and constructed himself back when he was a NASA engineer.

Who knows! The writers have given us plenty of plot twists already!
Jokes aside, I guess they might elect a Speaker tomorrow. Depends on how many of the Horn rebels they are able to get on their side I suppose? This assumes that he gives up more stuff.
We'll see soon enough if this progress the McCarthy camp is talking about is actually real.

Could we see a group of McCarthy allies try and assemble a large group to back some other candidate behind McCarthy’s back? Basically trying to coup McCarthy?

The only reason you have this footage is because Santos passed it on to you when he was a KGB agent.

Also, my anti-Trump and anti-McCarthy father just bet me on 5-to-1 odds (Trump being speaker being 1/5 as likely) that Donald Trump is Speaker by the end of the month, lol, on the grounds that now that he's been nominated the Republicans will be "too scared" of him to vote against him. I tried to point out that Trump has received exactly one vote, but then decided it was in my best interests to take the deal, since there's literally a 0% chance that Trump wins the Speakership (and thus no chance that I lose the bet).

Congress should just adjourn until Monday. They already have a handful of representatives who won’t be in attendance tomorrow for various reasons (funeral, surgery)

If McCarthy had a deal with the Taliban, it would have reflected on the 11th ballot. It did not. There is no evidence that another ballot at noon tomorrow will be different.

The weekend would also give Democrats a chance to meet with moderate republicans to elect Fred Upton.

The dysfunction has gone on for long enough. Now it's time to end it, securing Democrats more power during the 118th Congress, and allowing them to take credit for ending it in 2024.

Why must Democrats always clean up the messes Republicans make? Shouldn't, you know, Republicans take some responsibility here?

We can end this nonsense. We don't *need* to - we can allow this dysfunction to go on, though I'm not sure who that will help - OR we can voluntarily seize control. Electing Fred Upton Speaker would:
a.) get the House moving.
b.) give the Democrats much more leverage and control than they would have under a Speaker McCarthy, or any right-wing speaker.
c.) allow Democrats to take credit for the mess the GOP made in 2024, helping them to win their own House majority in 119th

This is common sense. This is a good opportunity. Democrats had better seize it and not do it for this kind of obstinate "Not my problem" reasoning. This isn't a problem for Democrats of fix. This is a major OPPORTUNITY.

There is a tactical advantage towards Upton as a speaker.

If that's the case - I don't think that it is, and this sort of dysfunction will be remembered if Democrats make sure that it is - then what makes you think the GOP won't get their sh**t together eventually? If they do, then we get some ultraconservative speaker and zero leverage. And nobody remembers this dysfunction - going off your own "goldfish memory" claim - anyway, so the GOP is fine. OTOH, right now, we can use this weakness in the GOP to give ourselves more power/influence during the 118th Congress. Upton's already made concrete promises about what he'll do as speaker (equal committee membership and chairmanships).

Exactly. He's already promised a lot. So even forgetting about the electoral aspect of it, Democrats would be INSANE not to make Upton speaker while they still can.

Keep in mind that Democrats can't unilaterally make Upton speaker; they still need a chunk of Republicans to join them.  While I suspect some Rs would eventually be willing to do so, it's probably a last resort for them, and we're not at the point of last resort (from their viewpoint) yet.
