Hopefully this one has the same outcome as Eriksen. But we received good news at the same point then, allowing the match to continue. And I suspect the NFL has much greater difficulty moving/cancelling games. Good on them for finally coming to the correct call though I suspect they had some needling from the teams. The ESPN coverage seems to have been quite embarrassing, par for the course.

I have been watching NFL football for my entire life, and I don't recall a player being injured this severely on the field.

His mother was in the stands, watching her son play tonight. So my thoughts went to her, as I could only imagine her anguish as she was watching them administering CPR on her son.

Reports seem to say the NFL didn’t suspend it but the Bills/Bengals coaches and players refused to resume the game so they had no choice.

Massive respect for the players if that's the case. I can't imagine forcing them to play under these circumstances, they're under no condition to do so psychologically - and that doesn't even mention how disrespectful it would be to Hamlin.

Absolutely horrific, especially for someone so young.  My most heartfelt thoughts with him and his family.  

From my limited knowledge about sports medicine and the circumstances, may be a case of something called commotio cordis.  It's something I've read about in baseball and lax players where a sudden and violent hit to the chest during a very specific part of the cardiac cycle throws the heart into v-fib (irregular heart rhythm).  

It's extremely rare, the window for it to happen during the one-second cardiac cycle is incredibly tiny -- think of it like trying to throw a dart at a dot on a target that's zooming by.  

Again that's just me being an armchair physician, I obviously don't know anything about his medical history.  And regardless of the cause, this is absolutely awful.
