If BRTD would accept that The Cure is "Emo", might be a tossup in my book.

Considering that is not the case, I would certainly consider "Piano Man" to be superior to what tripe emo music that BRTD serves out for a New Years feast....

How is that controversial in the slightest?

The Cure started in 1978 in the UK. How can such a band be directly influenced by and linked to the Washington, DC post-hardcore scene of 1985?

Three Days Grace has definitely made better music than Piano Man

Also I'm sure some BRTD emo beats it too.

Sorry BRTD, you happen to neglect the massive overlap happening in the US and UK where the "Goth Movement" was a major subcultural thing...

Your definition of "Emo" might be considered a "Musical Purist" concept, but reality is that the Goth Movement and the Emo Movement are closely related.

One of our Granddaughters, who is 12 was over for X-Mas, and while she is bored listened to some of the wrangling going on between her Aunts and Grandma, clearly listed some of her favorite bands.

Without prompting "The Cure" was listed as one of her top four bands...

Needless to say, she is very musically inclined, and would certainly be someone who might have been classically considered "Emo" or "Goth" back in the dayz...

Yet my Grandaughter chatting on X-Mas Day never once mentioned any of those weird bands you keeo posting, despite part of the Emo / Goth subcultural scene.

What does that have to do with emo?

Emo didn't exist until 1985 and never had anything to do with goth. It was an offshoot of the DC hardcore punk scene. The first British emo bands in the early 90s didn't sound like The Cure at all.

No, I like Welcome To The Black Parade more.  I was never into it when it was a big song but they play it all the time on 104.5 and it rocks.

It's great fuel for maladaptive daydreaming. Is that emo/shut-in-with-mental-health-issues enough?

Welcome to the Forum Heughbeugh!

What attracted you to Atlas Forum in the first place, other than BRTD's threads about musical matters?

Ask the question, simply because in my own experience, as well as most likely many other posters started with election results threads as opposed to jumping immediately into Forum Community threads.

Also my political knowledge compared to said friend who showed me this amazing community is microscopic
