If he does run, I dearly hope George Allen runs for that position as well. Tongue

I hope Mark Warner runs again.

I lived in Virginia when he first ran back in 2001, and he was great.

I expect Warner to break the tradition of Virginia electing the nominee of whatever Party lost the Presidency the year earlier in 2009.  As I expect there to be a Democratic President and a Democratic Governor of Virginia.  I think this tradition has gone all the way back to 1981 has it not?

Not really news. I've been saying all along that if he isnt on the ticket as VP he is running for Governor again.

He could also run for Senator next year. It could be the Warner (not brothers) redux.  He might hold off on making a decision in case he's angling for the VP spot.

The thing is, I'm glad he didn't run for President, his foreign policy creds seemed to be lacking.

It is possible that he could run for VP and Senator in 2008, then run for Governor in 2009, and if he loses the vice-presidency but wins the Senate, he could appoint Tim Kaine to the Senate seat. If he wins the VP, the president could appoint someone to replace him.

Hopefully Tim Kaine and Democrats in the Virginia legislature can pass a bill allowing future Virginia governors to serve two terms consecutively before the 2009 election. That way Mark Warner could be governor again until 2017.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

ITA.  I don't like term limits at all.  Not even when they keep the guys whose policies I hate out of office.

Tim Kaine should run for the Senate in 2008.

Why? He's not going to beat John Warner. If you can't beat an incumbent, there is no point in wasting a good candidate on them just so you can "only" lose by 10 points instead of simply running a complete sacrificial lamb. You aren't going to get the seat either way.
