It might be helpful to use a scoring system, if you want, which another website used for RL members of Congress (can't remember what site). That site, though, used ratings of 10.0 L (Liberal) 10.0 C (Conservative). You can make your own political compass with the Senators as dots if you want here:

https://www.politicalcompass.org/crowdchart2

Members of the current Senate are as follows, as they are listed on the wiki:

Seven Eleven
Western Democrat
AFE
GregTheGreat
Utah Neolib
Koopa
Mr. R
Muaddib
NC Yankee
S019
Spiral
DeadPrez
WM
Devout Centrist
OSR
Blairite
Solid

Just my opinion, not based on anything and probably wrong:

Devout Centrist 8.7 L
Solid 8.7 L
AFE 7.5 L
Blairite 7.0 L

Koopa 6.7 L
Seven Eleven 6.4 L
WD 6.3 L

Spiral 6.3 L
Utah Neolib 4.9 L
S019 3.0 L
WM 1.2 C
Spark 2.0 C

Greg 2.6 C
Yankee 4.9 C
Muaddib 4.9 C
OSR 5.4 C
Dead Prez 5.7 C

Mr. R 6.1 C

Average of All Senators: 1.8 L

Labor Average: 6.8 L
Federalist Average: 4.0 C

*I didn't do averages for groups/parties with only one Senator for obvious reasons.

I am not fond of linear paradigms as is well known since so there so many competing metrics to consider that it is difficult to prioritize one or the other.

I would certainly agree that Muaddib is to my right socially, but probably just slightly to my left economically for instance. I tend to think that Westy, Muaddib and I vote together more often relatively speaking but that is not based on any analytics just a couple of votes as such.

Fitting the others in around that, though it is somewhat uncertain. I am not sure I would put Spark between Westy and myself, so I probably agree with Mr. R on his placement.

it'd be better to do this on a social and economic axis. S019 for instance is socially auth and fiscally center to center-left.

So far I think the most ironic thing in this thread, is that everyone has listed the order as least to most conservative.

Mostly guesses, especially for social scores. I didn't consider anyone's posted political matrix scores for this. I also believe that Utah Neolib is more LW in his1 personal views than in his voting record and I believe I am more moderate personally than my votes suggest. For most people, though, their score may reflect their personal views more than their specific voting record.

1: I believe Utah Neolib said on Lokcord that he believes his gender identity is male (after previously identifying as trans) as far as I know. I will edit this post if I am wrong, just let me know.

I believe it could be useful if we have a thread where people can indicate how they like to be referred to (by which pronouns) because i'm likely not aware of all of that myself and it would be helpful for me, because I personally respect that (but just sometimes don't know about that).

The forum could also use a function like that (like next to the avatar or below it to be fair).

Someone should set up a tracker comparing how often Senators vote with a certain person eg the trackers in the US that say 'X voted with Biden/Pelosi/Schumer 97% of the time'. That could be more informative than trying to use their rl political views, because people don't always behave as you'd expect based on it.

It depends on the exact content of the act. I'm not gonna vote against an act if it reasonably makes sense and has wide bipartisan appeal or is actually left-wing in its core.

I suspect at this point, most senators vote more than 50% of the time for the proposed acts, except for maybe inactive users and SevenEleven will probably have the lowest percentage.

You're right tho that this exercise is mostly guessing work, and also based on other "sources of information", and not the actual voting record.

There might be some variance in E score but Sev, Blairite, WB, and UNL would probably all end up fairly close together pretty low in social score, so some of the charts in this thread don't make sense. Although The Political Compass never had a reputation for being reasonable in public figures' scores. Tongue

In what world is Angela Merkel to the left of Clinton+Obama? Also how is Joe Biden socially conservative?

I did put Biden at +1.5 socially conservative, and you suddenly say "how is he a socially conservative". He isn't exactly socially progressive, don't you think so. I personally see Biden as a christian democrat, and rated him for some past beliefs as well. Overall Biden is pretty close to the center, but economically to the left of Obama.

Maybe he should have been 0.5 or 1.0 socially conservative, but i put him close to the center, and that's the bottom line.

Merkel is a christian democrat as well, and was pretty liberal for a christian Democrat, she's also quite centrist and i take into account that Germany as a whole is to the left of USA politics.

There are things Biden cannot do, that Merkel could do simply because he governed America and she governed Germany.

IMO there is little difference between people like Obama, Merkel, Biden. But I personally see Obama as more market friendly than Biden. He also didn't go after Wall Street really, but tried to find a market-led solution to the economic crisis, yes with stimulus (Keynesian). Non-Keynesian is essentially already economically hard right.
