Debate Reactions

Opinion | Winners and Losers of the Democratic Debate

"(8/10) Merkley comes off as principled, authentic, and sincere. Democrats will pay attention."- Jamelle Bouie

"(9/10) Mayor Adams presents solutions and appeals to a broad audience of Americans. Can't be said for the others."- Bret Stephens

"(8/10) Whitmer has spunk!"- Gail Collins

"(9/10) Liberals take note. Khanna clearly deeply understands the issues and it showed."- Nicholas Kristof

"(5/10) One wonders if in the midst of Governor Newsom's feud with the Vice President, he's totally missed the American people. Same goes for her."- Peter Wehner

"(6/10) Confrontational!"- Gail Collins  (On Senator Gillibrand)

"(7/10) Gore has yet to provide a comprehensive response for his quixotic exit from retirement, but he is a serious, competent statesman who rises above the infighting."- Peter Wehner

"(7/10) Gillibrand gets herself in the highlight clips. For better or worse."- Michelle Cottle

The New York Times, July 21st, 2023

So we saw some more of the rivalry between Vice President Harris and Governor Newsom… I also think Gretchen Whitmer performed well… Senator Gillibrand made a big showing... Jeff Merkley made a clear case for being the successor to Bernie Sanders’s movement…”
Van Jones, Live on CNN, July 20th, 2023

"I thought Gaetz was great. He's not afraid to say anything. It's fantastic."

"Stone sure likes to attack, attack, attack, and it's hilarious but I'm not sure anybody knows what he wants. Maybe he just likes chaos, it's pretty funny. We can have some chaos. It upsets the RINOs."

"I think people are still figuring out who is the most America First candidate. But it's pretty obvious that Haley and Hogan, total lightweights, they're just part of the global two party duopoly. I mean why is Hogan even here he belongs with the Lincoln Project RINOs. What a pathetic, emasculated person, just be a Democrat already stop pretending."

"I wanna see a Gaetz Harris debate. Or better yet a Gaetz Biden debate, see a senile old man just get destroyed, destroyed by an energetic real man. Fantastic stuff."

"Stone advanced some pretty strong attacks on DeSantis, and people who truly believe in the Trump movement will want answers."

"Reagan this, Reagan that from Haley, what about the Trump movement?"
Tucker Carlson, Live on FOX, July 24th, 2023

"Kari Lake really sticks it to the globalist establishment in both parties, she's a power player."

"DeSantis has done a lot of good work fighting the anti-America leftist indoctrination crowd in Florida. But it's unclear where he stands on America First issues, Republicans are certainly asking questions after tonight."

"But I'll say this for the Governor, Stone's been attacking him for a while from the sidelines, and tonight the Governor got a chance to respond and he showed why Florida voters gave him a 20-point landslide over has-been corporate Democrat Charlie Crist."

"Governor Noem has a lot of bad things to say about the other candidates. But more and more she seems like she'll let Republicans down on meaningful America First issues."

"It's no surprise Governor Youngkin defeated corrupt Terry McAullife in November of 2021, he's not afraid to call out the radical left for their hatred of America, and he has pretty strong MAGA credentials."

"You know Tucker, that whole debate I kept thinking, I agree with Hawley. He gets things exactly right. He delivers a searing indictment of the globalist class that sneers at average Americans."

"I don't think voters will like Ambassador Haley, she's an empty suit, nothing but America Last globalist policies that got America into a war in Iraq and now knee-deep in a war in Ukraine."
Tulsi Gabbard, Live on FOX, July 24th, 2023

"Roger Stone, he's a chaos agent. He sows chaos. But when he actually has to put up, he melts down. DeSantis is a Reaganesque conservative leader, he enrages the radical left, and he's hated by the grifter crowd because he can win and deliver. He showed that at the debate."
Ben Shapiro, Live on the Ben Shapiro Show, July 25th, 2023

"There's a very simple way of looking at these things. We know that the DoJ predetermined the Trump indictments to bring him down. We know that it was a coup, a slow running coup from the Dominion voting machines to the 1/6 Antifa provocateurs, to the indictments. Whose side were you on, Roger Stone was on the side of patriots, DeSantis was working with the elites."
Steve Bannon, Live on the War Room, July 25th, 2023

Chapter III: The Road to Iowa and South Carolina
October 2023-Early February 2024

Another turn has gone by and the race is really, really heating up, but this is just the start. We're about to accelerate to full speed, this turn will lead to the Iowa Caucus and the South Carolina primary and conclude with those events. It will be really intense. At this point in the game I should expect to see television advertisement blitzes in early states, rigorous campaign schedules, and heavy use of campaign resources. This turn will run through October, November, December, January, and the first few days of February. Saddle up, and ride to the sound of campaign advertisements!

This turn update is HUGE, and it comes in 3 posts. So please, take your time, get a cup of your beverage of choice and read it through. It is full of important content. It's possible I missed a few things.

Statement from Kari Lake
Quote
Marriage is a compromise between two people and, as many couples will tell you, there are good days and there are bad days. I never claimed to be a perfect person and I have said things in the past that I am not proud of. The folks who know me, the American people, know these words don't reflect who I am. In the heat of an argument, it's easy to let your emotions get the better of you, and for that, I admit I am a flawed person. It has been through my Christian faith that I have found peace and tranquility amdist the anger and strife of everyday life. It is these same values I have worked to prioritize in my relationships with others.

Right now, I am officially calling upon Maricopa County, and all relevant legal authorities, to unseal my divorce records and make them completely public. As soon as possible. The folks who want to read them, who want to parse every word and every quarrel of my marriage, can go through them as much as they like. The people who have demanded these records will see, in great deal, the ups and downs of a flawed, yet loving marriage. That's the whole truth.

To the American people and to my supporters, I say that the work of this campaign goes on. We are hitting the road tomorrow. We are going across this great nation together as one. Together, we are going to change this country for the better. I promise to fight for you, above all else, and restore desperately needed leadership to this wonderful country we call home. Thank you.

Black, Manafort & Stone

Upon the conclusion of the Summer of Stone, the polls came in and the candidate was left frustrated. He was expecting big league bounces across the board, not marginal inching up. Although even the press had to acknowledge the solid punches he gave DeSantis at the debate, the clown car primary was manifesting itself to not give Stone the proper recognition as the truest-to-form, one-of-a-kind MAGA candidate.

Stone's ire grew. He knew he must absolutely pummel the opposition—and he would, especially the RINOs and backstabbers. He knew he must also continue honing in on the fundamental messages that work best. One issue that Stone would like to address right away is to sharpen his campaign's organization to be top notch—the best of the best—and ruthlessly efficient against the competition. Bannon was doing a solid job managing the campaign, particularly with consolidating America First voices across the spectrum, but his capacities have been stretched thin with the staff and volunteers still exhibiting the loose, informal networks of the early days. There would need to be more direction, more organization, and vitally more people to perform the job.

Stone knew exactly who to turn to for a remake.

Enter Paul J. Manafort. Made infamous to the public during the Trump years, the man has for decades been a political hot commodity and an undisputed master at the craft. Honing in on his connections and skills since the days of Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan, Manafort has operated as everything from an advisor, delegate hunter, and RNC director. His expertise was widely sought domestically and abroad, electing presidents across multiple countries. Manafort first befriended and partnered with Stone in the 1980s when they launched their consulting group, Black, Manafort & Stone. Their paths would cross again on a number of occasions later, most notably when they separately supported and worked to elect Donald Trump. Both men also bear the scars of the subsequent Special Counsel investigation, possibly cementing their legacies until they received the official presidential pardons.

At the beginning of October, it was announced that Stone hired Manafort as Deputy Campaign Manager. Manafort would oversee the day-to-day activities of integrating staff operations, opening/expanding field offices, investing in training, and conducting research for optimal campaign outcomes. Another task that Manafort will handle, having years of specialized experience, is the recruiting and whipping of pro-Stone delegates that will be instrumental in the case of a brokered convention (which the campaign sees as very feasible). Bannon as the head would be in charge of the big-picture items including state strategies, advertising/media decisions, and GOTV efforts. This arrangement plays to the unique strengths of Bannon and Manafort, having been mutually agreed upon by all parties.

Stone looped in another old friend and partner during this time: Charlie Black, whose last name also reflected in their former consulting group. Black, who has worked on campaigns for John McCain and John Kasich, accepted a more hands-off, informal role as Senior Advisor as a favor to his friend. He is thought to mainly be involved as a bridge to moderate and establishment elements in the GOP wary of Stone at this stage. Given how much the primaries can change at any moment, and given Stone's intentions to fight this battle for the long haul, being prepared on all fronts is paramount for success.

Stone intends to succeed. In fact, he will make sure of it.

Gillibrand Votes

Accessed via Imgur

Gillibrand cast an Aye vote on the following:
- Family Bill of Rights
- DISCLOSE Act
- Veteran's Health Bill

Gillibrand cast a Nay vote on the following:
- Stop the Censorship Act

Statements
Family Bill of Rights
Quote
Today I cast my vote to pass the Family Bill of Rights. My bill will rethink the ways we deal with women's healthcare in this country and push issues like these to the forefront of our system. I'm proud to be joined with so many other great Senators and Representatives, like Rep. Khanna who has sponsored this legislation in the House, to help pass this bill and send it to President Biden. I'm confident in its passage and look forward to a brighter, better future for America's women.

DISCLOSE Act
Quote
I just spoke to Senator Merkley, and I'm proud to have supported his bill. Bills like these are of great importance to ensuring that we have a fair, equitable, and safe America. I look forward to its passage and working on bills of this caliber in the future.

Veteran's Health Bill
Quote
Senator Sanders & Tillis did something truly great here. For too long our veterans have been left behind, and it's time that we stand up for them. The VA needs reform, and this bill will deliver it. I look forward to working on this issue further in the future.

Stop the Censorship Act
Quote
Look, the name of this bill may seem enticing to some, but here's the truth: this is a direct attack on American democracy, private business, and the American people. These people are claiming they're being censored and shut down, but in all reality this is not happening. Those who are being de-platformed have a history of domestic terrorism or were engaging in acts of treason like the January 6th riots. I support the 1st amendment and free speech, but I do not support this bill and its infringement on American democracy, business, and people.

LIN WOOD SPEECH IN THE MIDDLE OF A CASINO AT THE VENETIAN IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

Well, folks, it's official! We have hit a major milestone in our polling! The Marxist-Leninist-Phil Scottist-Disney-Iger-GruFromDespicableMeIst-Bidenist-Pavalotskyist-LesterHoltist media finally shows me in the polls! Yesterday I went by the DMV and changed my name to "Undecided/Someone Else." It looks like the cabal of baby eaters have taken note and reflected that in the polling. However, they made a typo. It says we're only at 8%. They meant to do a sideways 8, like this: "∞%".

Additionally, I have a very big announcement. I am honored, privileged, excited, evicted, envigorated, engortiated, and effervescent to announce my UPCOMING WEDDING! Everyone's invited, all of my 2024 pals. I hope everybody comes! We're gonna have a pillow fight, hot chocolate, we'll talk about boys, and watch movies till the sun comes up! We're gonna have sooooo much fun. It would be soooooo cool if you guys came, I really like you all Wink. My brides and I can't wait!

For the People: Regroup the troops

With the national media believing the Vice President failed to express a message to the American people in the national debate and with opponents gaining in her polls and her staying stagnant the Vice President is aiming to take a page from the Biden 2020 playbook and scale down how she campaigns. Once opting for big events, meet and greets, and rallies. The Vice President is deciding to meet voters across the country in more personal settings. Knocking on doors with volunteers, chatting with them in their homes and small businesses and severely limiting the big rallies and events she used to have.

The first sign of this was in North Carolina in October where she visited the home of single mother who is struggling to make ends meet with high bills, child care and healthcare bills. The Vice President detailed her "Universal Choices Act" where she would allow people to opt into a government program and also detailed her Universal Childcare Program which would make childcare free for all children from 6 months - kindergarten. But in the meantime the Vice President sought to get help for the woman by contacting her congressional representative with her (which prompted a very funny phone call with the intern answering the phone) and got her the services she needed for now. With the Vice President later telling her "When I'm President you're gonna be well taken care of"

The month of October is also the Vice President's birthday month. The campaign has decided to hold an event with supporters in San Francisco, one of their few huge events from now on to celebrate the Vice President's 59th Birthday. The campaign will also start airing YouTube ads in early states narrated by Harris' sister, Maya, in an effort to show the Vice President's more personal side which many voters like to see in a Presidential candidate, especially in early states with extended personal face time in these states.

The Vice President has also been unable to find a plausible way to respond to a Gore candidacy besides boxing him out in the South. The Vice President has increased her presence even more in the South in recent weeks hoping to once again have a Biden style victory in the state. The Vice President has also increased her fundraising presence once again relying on small donor donations as evidenced by a fundraising email sent to supporters;

(Insert registered name),

It's Kamala, and I'm coming directly to you to ask for your support and hopefully your donation to help fuel our campaign for and by the people of this great country.

Here's the facts, my opponents are gaining in the polls and we are falling behind our fundraising goal as a result of that. We need all hands on deck and I would love if you could chip in 20, 10, even 5 dollars would get us far. As you know we do not accept donations from corporate PACS which makes our situation so much more people powered, but I know if you chip in you will make the difference.

[$100] [$50] [$20] [$15] [$10] [$5] [OTHER]

Ever dollar counts and every show of support takes this campaign a long way, I hope I can depend on you,

Kamala

Nikki Haley: The Road to Iowa and South Carolina
With recent polls showing Hawley nipping at Haley's heels nationally, many in the Haley campaign have urged the Ambassador to go negative, though Haley, fearing the backlash from Trump loyalists, has generally hesitated to do so.  Haley spends most of October and November holding fundraisers in various parts of the country, as well as multiday campaign tours of Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.  While in New Hampshire, Haley visits with Governor Chris Sununu to discuss, among other things, her vision for the country and make her pitch for a potential endorsement.  While in her home state of South Carolina, Haley campaigns particularly heavily in black communities, highlighting how Democrats have "failed black America in so many ways," and reminding them that she, as governor, had signed the bill removing the Confederate flag from the grounds of the state Capitol.  In Nevada, Haley has pursued a similar strategy, campaigning extensively for Hispanic support.

In early November, Haley makes a surprising announcement, declaring that she would not seek placement on the ballot in the Florida primary, a decision she explained, was due to DeSantis' home state advantage and desire not to split the Republican establishment vote in the third-most populous state.  The Ambassador then urged her supporters in Florida to back DeSantis instead.  Many observers saw this as a shot across the bow to the other candidates, particularly her more strongly Trump-aligned opponents, that she would do whatever it takes to get a more traditional Republican nominated, and rumors surfaced that Haley might even withdraw from the race.  Meanwhile, Haley ramped up her presence on Twitter and other social media outlets, but took brief time off for the holidays with her family

In December and January, Haley increased her ad buys in the four previously mentioned primary states, still running a mostly positive campaign.  The Ambassador still focused her heaviest efforts on New Hampshire, but as Iowa and Nevada drew closer, she began increasing her presence in those states as well.  Haley began targeting small donors in emails as well, asking for as little as $5 to support the campaign.

Hawley to reporters: 'I'm a no' on cuts to Social Security, Medicare

Quote
Following reports of Senate Republicans considering holding the debt ceiling hostage to negotiate cuts for major entitlement programs, U.S Senator from Missouri Josh Hawley made clear he wasn't on board, emphasizing that 'these are earned benefits, people paid into them', and cautioned his colleagues, adding on that 'Senate Republicans are playing with fire.' Hawley has repeatedly rejected the proposition of leveraging the debt limit for entitlement reform throughout his Senate tenure, and in his 2018 campaign he promised voters he wouldn't support slashing benefits to these programs.

Senator Hawley went on to say he would be okay with budget reforms that encourage 'fiscal discipline, ... whether that be gutting wasteful spending, tackling fraud and abuse, or making sure these important programs stay solvent in one way or another,' but that cuts to Social Security and Medicare 'are a non-starter.' He pointed to last year's underwhelming midterms as an example of 'what happens when our party chooses to frighten independents and swing voters with hoo-ha.'

It's unclear whether other Republicans plan to cut the party on entitlement reform, although 4 other Senate Republicans have publicly endorsed Sen. Hawley's campaign for President, which may indicate something about where they stand. Nevertheless, with Republicans in the minority, and the only Democratic Senators considering entitlement reform being Manchin and Sinema (although not necessarily cuts), any defection from the party line could kill the effort.

Sen. Kennedy backs Hawley: "He's a no-nonsense guy, and he'd be a no-nonsense President."

Quote
In a press gaggle with Congressional reporters, Sen. Kennedy of Louisiana revealed he was endorsing Josh Hawley for President, citing his 'tough lawyer' attitude coupled with his 'strong stand for oversight and accountability' on the investigation of former President Trump, and 'courage to fight for election integrity.' Here's an excerpt:

REPORTER: "Senator, what do you think of the Republican Primary right now? Is there anyone you're considering supporting?"

KENNEDY: "Well, right now there's a lot of fighters and there's a lot of winners in the race for President, but there's not a lot of people who are fightin' and winnin'. One that's caught my eye, though, is Senator Hawley. I've worked with him here in this body for some while, I've gotten to know him well, and I've seen what he's about and what he'd do for the country. He's won tough races, and he's won tough fights. I think that's just about all you need in a President. He's a no-nonsense guy, and he'd be a no-nonsense President. He's got my support."

The Hawley campaign has welcomed Senator Kennedy's endorsement, calling it exemplary of 'turning-tides' in the primary campaign. With his backing, as well as Senator Braun's who endorsed him last week, Hawley is now tied with front-runner DeSantis for endorsements from Senate Republicans and ahead of everyone else.

Gov. Healey backs Gillibrand: "A Fighter for Women"
Accessed via Imgur

Quote
I'm here today to endorse a great friend of mine and a fighter for the rights of women, LGBTQ+ Americans, and those who feel that something more can be done by the Government to help the American people. As Governor of Massachusetts over these past two years, we've been able to accomplish a lot in terms of advancing healthcare rights, gun control protections, LGBTQ+ rights, and strengthening our education system. To help take these fights to the national level, I see only one candidate in the field who has the guts to actually get things done that others are scared to do: Kirsten Gillibrand.

Kirsten Gillibrand has been a fighter her entire career. From the fields of upstate New York to the Senate Chamber in Washignton DC, she has done everything she can to help create an American in which everyone has the equal opportunity and ability to build a life for themselves. As President, she'll advance an agenda that strengthens the rights of American citizens, cuts the middle class in by lowering their taxes, and expand social services while working to stop climate change. I look forward to campaigning with her throughout the following months and helping send her to the White House come November of next year.

Statements from Senator Jeff Merkley

Statement on Family Bill of Rights

Quote
I'm proud to stand today in support of Senator Gillibrand's bill to help working families. In recent years, especially after the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, have clearly brought to light the dire need for improvements to our childcare system. This bill will do exactly that and more. In addition, we are the only major country in the world to not guarantee paid parental leave. This is simply unacceptable in 2023 and this bill will finally create a national program to address this.

I also appreciate the effort Senator Gillibrand put into this legislation to be conscious of racial bias in our healthcare system. The maternal mortality rate among black women remains staggeringly high in comparison to white women and it's time we had federal legislation that acknowledged this. Needless to say, I will be enthusiastically voting Yes.

Statement on DISCLOSE Act

Quote
This is a piece of legislation I've supported and fought for along with my colleagues for over a decade now. Ever since the disastrous Supreme Court decision in Citizen's United, dark money spending has wholeheartedly infiltrated our elections, with the American people being left i the dark. The DISCLOSE Act will finally shine a light on these groups and let the voters know who really is paying for the campaigns they're seeing.

Additionally, this bill will expand the tools in our arsenal to stand up to foreign influence in our election. Already for the upcoming presidential election, we're hearing reports of unprecedented attempts by dictatorial regimes like the Russians or the Saudis to use their money to advertise for candidates to their liking. This is no joke. This is an assault on our democracy. It's time for us to do something on the defensive.

Statement on Stop the Censorship Act

Quote
Look, I've never been quiet about the uncomfortable amount of control big tech now holds in our political process. Nor have I hesitated to call out the monopolies beginning to form from these mega-corporations. I'm happy to collaborate with Senator Hawley on these issues if he wishes to. What I will not support however, is an infringement on the ability of private corporations to remove misinformation.

Especially we've seen increasingly in recent years, the disturbing trend of disinformation about our nation's elections being shared through social media, misleading voters and undermining our democracy. Especially with recent reports of increased foreign influence in our ongoing presidential primaries, curtailing companies ability to fight disinformation and bot accounts is the last thing we should do. This is a needless, ill-considered attempt to interfere in the decisions of private companies and I will be voting No on this bill when it comes to the floor.

Statement on Sanders-Tillis bill

Quote
I'm extremely pleased to see the success my friend Senator Sanders has had in reaching across the aisle and providing healthcare solutions for our veterans. As many veterans in my state have attested to me, the state of the VA is frankly not working the way it needs to. We've all heard the horror stories of extreme wait lines and inaccessibility to disability care. It's no way to repay the people who put their lives on the lines to protect our nation.

I'll be proud to cast my vote in favor of this agreement and I'm heartened to see that this measure seems set to receive broad support from both parties. I've always said quality healthcare access shouldn't be up for debate in this country and I'll happily support any legislation that will expand that access to as many Americans as possible, especially our veterans.

God-Given Rights

As the candidates sharpened their messages in the lead-up to the primaries, Roger Stone gained new focus and clarity amidst his opponents' bickering. He must do more to prove himself, show the nation that his convictions lie squarely within the heart and soul of the GOP. Voters know Stone is a fighter, but what is he fighting for? This is the question that Stone will especially hone on for the fall as he hopes to crescendo into unstoppable momentum by the first ballots.

An untapped reservoir of great importance to the Republican base: gun rights. Stone has long been adamant on the Second Amendment, having spoken out for years on the necessity of self-defense against thugs and tyranny alike. Starting in October after the campaign shakeup, Stone proceeded to hit heavily on quickly establishing himself as the pro-gun candidate in the race, leaving no room for opponents to outflank him on the issue. Not only would he oppose any new federal gun control measures, but he would fully endorse the wide spectrum of state nullification efforts for gun laws.

Stone notably attended the convention of the Gun Owners of America, seeking their endorsement and also making his stance familiar to the countless gun owners ranking this issue as a top priority. Excerpts of Stone's remarks follow:

Ladies and gentlemen, you want a champion for your constitutional, God-given rights? Look no further. Many of my Republican colleagues running merely pay lip service to you and stab our backs the next. They hedge, they sway, they compromise. You will never get that from President Stone.

Here's what I pledge to you and to the nation: As President, I will veto any bill that contains a whiff of restrictions on your right to bear arms. If Washington thinks they can get away with stuffing some shady provisions in a budget or bloated omnibus, they're sorely mistaken. We must do more than that, however. My administration will push to repeal the unconstitutional NFA and GCA that permits much of the gun grabbing done by the gun grabbers. No longer will this government have their prized gun database to abuse at their disposal.

There will no doubt be hell raised from the elites in both parties. Let them. Regardless of what Congress has the spine or willpower to do, my Justice Department will give states the full freedom to embrace the Constitution and enforce their own gun policies. *loud cheers*

This is the leadership sorely lacking in the Washington class. Patriots like all of you in this room have been stymied, shut down, disrespected, and tossed around for far too long. I know personally just how low these feds are willing to go. Our rights and liberties actually mean something, deriving from God and enshrined in our laws. No longer will the tyrants have their way.

This is our moment! We must rise up, defend our freedoms, and make America an unvarnished beacon of liberty once more!

Stone would make similar remarks at state chapters of the National Rifle Association, as well as mingling with top NRA leadership to persuade them on his campaign's merits. In the two top early primaries aggressively targeted by Stone, New Hampshire and Nevada, Stone merged his law and order messaging with his gun freedom rhetoric, arguing that even local law enforcement disdains the federal overreach on gun control. To aid with this, Stone spent extensive time campaigning with local sheriffs and rallying police unions to his movement. A key group targeted is the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association, led by Richard Mack. Nevada's top former sheriff, Joe Lombardo, is a heavy focus of the Stone campaign for a game changer endorsement. Stone had a publicized visit with Governor Lombardo in early November, speaking on everything from gun rights to rebuilding Nevada industries post-COVID, all while staying in regular communication through phone calls and aide meetings. Additionally, Stone would double down on securing the loyalty of the militia movement, particularly concentrated in the West. Stone fielded productive conversations with leaders of the Oath Keepers, Minutemen Project, as well as smaller state militias.

Moving forward, Stone would have more discipline on the issues than ever. He would define the race and force the field to follow.

HOMECOMING: Lake Returns to Eldridge
Quote
It is such an honor to be here today. Such an honor. You know, coming back here, to where it all started, it really makes me thankful folks. Very very thankful. For me, it's fascinating. I've been back to visit family in Iowa many times, but I can't remember the last time I paid my old highschool a visit. So many new buildings here. They completely redid the quad, painted it a lighter shade of red and white. The track field is now astroturf. So so much change. But I can still feel the same spirit here. It's intense. You can listen to the past speak to you in a place like this, on a day like today. Really reminds someone of what once was. Of what used to be.

You know, a lot of people have accused me of avoiding Iowa. They said, "Kari, she's not going to Iowa! What's she afraid of? Why is she being very rude to the people of Iowa?" These are the kinds of folks who make a big show out of visiting every county in the state. They've never been to Iowa in their entire lives, and they all descend on this state at once. All at once. And they're screaming, "we want your vote, we want you at the caucus. We want you! We want you!" They do this act for over a year. Maybe even two or more! They keep coming back, and they demand your support. Demand it. They'll put out all kinds of scary phone calls and tell you, "Our records say you haven't voted in X years, and if you want to keep your house, you better vote this year." It's a spectacle.

I didn't want to do that. I didn't want to do that. I wanted to make coming back home to Iowa special. I wanted to come back to my hometown, specifically, and make it count. Not to strongarm people into supporting me. Not to send out phone calls or make those TV ads that blare at you over and over again. No no. I came back here to see the Iowa I remember.

Sometimes, I look back at my life and wonder what could have been. When I graduated from North Scott High School, I thought about the boundless future ahead of me. There were so many opportunities, so so many. And I wanted to take it all in. I wanted to be prepared. It's why when, I got my first job as an intern at KWQC-TV in Davenport, I took my first paycheck and put it in a savings account.

My parents were big on that, you know. They wanted me to save save save for my future. My dad was a tough as nails teacher and football coach from Richland. He was a veteran, he was a family man. He was an American above all else. He came to Elrdrige, for the first time, 50 years ago. He got a short term contract to teach government and history courses to a new generation of Iowans. That short term contract turned into over a decade of service and devotion to his school. All of his students loved him. You got into class, you followed the rules, and he was the greatest guy in the world. He was a fighter. He was my teacher. He was my Dad. And I carry his words with me every day I'm out here on the campaign trail. Every day.

Mom got her start in nursing. She grew up in Appleton and met my Dad in the summer of 1973. It was love at first sight, people. Love at first sight. My mom has this natural talent for finding the fighters. When I went into the hospital with her on bring your daughter to work day, it was incredible. This woman, my mother, she worked a 60 hour work. Easily. 60 hours a week. And they paid her peanuts when she first started. But she wasn't a quitter. She got her foot in the door, at these places, muscling against some of the most arrogant doctors in the world. And she never let go. She was so so passionate about nursing. Even today, I get calls from her. I get calls from my mom asking if I'm eating enough, if I'm taking vitamin D, if I'm getting enough sleep. I love her for it. She reminds everyone who's around her of what's important, at the end of the day.

I came back here, to Iowa, because it's where I got my start. It's where my parents made their lives. It's where I grew up. It's where I learned. It's where I loved. And coming home reminds me of how I felt that day at high school graduation. How I felt. When it looked like the future was ours for the taking.

Life has a funny way of changing our perspective, folks. I moved out to Phoenix back in 1994 to work as a weekend weather anchor. I can tell you, that job, we didn't have too much weather to report. No winter storms, no tornadoes. People just tuned into my segment, and I told them, "it's sunny, go enjoy the day!" That was great. But let me tell you, I always had this sense of longing. I missed my relatives back in Iowa. I missed that sense of community that we once had. My parents, they had 9 kids. 9! They were productive, believe me. Very very productive! And I missed my brothers back in Iowa. I took this opportunity, big big opportunity, that I felt I couldn't pass up. It took me away from Iowa. And, while I came back to visit a lot, it wasn't the same. It felt like I had lost something much bigger than myself. I had lost something I didn't even know I had.

There is a quiet unease that haunts this great nation, folks. It is a unspoken sense of loss. It's a fear, a deep fear, that our country has lost its way. That the America we knew, that our parents knew, is gone forever. That the future, once boundless and bright, has slipped between our fingers and has left us feeling hopeless. There is a feeling, it's true. There is a feeling that we've lost control. That once, we had everything figured out, and now we don't. It's the way that parents feel when they tuck their kids in at night, and flip on the local news. It's the way a farmer feels when they hear the bank is foreclosing on their property. It's the way I feel when I come back to Eldridge.

None of this was inevitable. None of it. Our nation, our country, used to have that security. We used to have it. 40 years ago, the communities around here were so tight knit. You had folks taking their kids to Mass, or church, on Sunday. You had people leaving their doors unlocked and meeting with friends on their front porch. We had a government that cared about its people. That protected its people. When we had that, towns like Eldridge florished. Iowa florished! My parents benefitted greatly from that, and they made me never forget what that felt like.

But it got taken away from us. It got stolen away from us. By the rich. By the politicians in Washington. By people who saw Iowa, and the rest of the country, as just 1's and 0's on a screen. Numbers. On a spreadsheet. They saw you folks, and they thought, "we can move them around, we can hire them, we can fire them. That factory doesn't need to stay in business. That farmer doesn't need his farm. We need the company stock to go up. We need to cut down social security and medicare in order to support tax cuts. We need to take in hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to support low wages. That's how they think. That's how they think.

These folks, they go off to Stanford, Yale, Harvard, you name it. They go to these places, and they make connections with people who don't like America. Investment bankers. Billionaires, Equity consultants. The schools are good, they're good schools, but they meet people who don't like this country. And they take that message to heart. Some of them even came from Iowa, or the great middle of this country. They came from here, and they listen to these investment bankers who tell them this country needs to change everything. We need to toss out what made us great, and we need to listen to them.

These people, these politicians as we know them, they prey on your insecurity. They look at you, and they see a sucker. They dress up their ideas in these nice, neat little packages. They sound smart. They sound so so smart! They say everything you want to hear. They say all the good things about Iowa and about America. It's great! And they want your vote. They always ask for your vote at the end. Above everything, they want that.

I'm not going to tell you who to vote for, or what you should do. I'm telling you where I stand. Where I made my own choices. I'm telling you, as someone who grew up here, as someone who took those values to heart, where I made up my mind.

Do you folks know why I made my divorce records public? Why I did that? Something so personal, something that people could use to hurt me big time? I did it because I want to be honest with you. I don't want any secrets. I want you to know that, when you hear me say something, it's the truth. I won't hide any of my past. I won't hide anything from you. Because, really, my story is your story. Your story is America's story. That feeling of loss, we all share that.

I'm gonna change that as President. Everything I've done, all my life, has led up to this moment. I came here because I want to tell you folks, right here, right now, that we are taking back control. We are taking back control of this country! We are going to take back control of our cities and our towns. We are taking back control of our future! We're gonna fight like hell for this country.

We're taking back control. We're taking back control from woke billionaires steal our jobs over to China and India. We're taking back control from bureaucrats who type away at keyboards and strip us of our rights. We're taking back control from the people who forgot about Iowa. Who forgot about the whole middle of this country. We're taking it back from them, right here, right now.

This is our cause. This is our struggle. This is our fight! Together, we will rebuild the American dream and secure the rights that were handed down to us from our forefathers. To the people of Iowa, to the people of America, I say this loudly:

Take back control Iowa! Take back control America! Thank you!

Merkley for President TV Spot "Traincar"
To be aired in Nevada and New Hampshire

Fade in from black. Narrator cuts in.

NARRATOR: Long before he was a candidate for President, Jeff Merkley's family didn't come from much. His grandmother lived in a traincar during the Great Depression.

Wikimedia Commons

NARRATOR: His father overcame tuberculosis and Potter's Disease to work a good union job in a lumber mill. Jeff learned from him the value of hard work and became the first in his family to graduate from college.

merkley.senate.gov

Ever since he got into politics, Jeff hasn't forgotten his family history. He's fought to build an America where anyone can get ahead, regardless of their background. It's why he passed one of the first bans on LGBT workplace discrimination in the country. It's why he voted for Obamacare and continues to fight for universal coverage for all Americans. And it's why he's been consistently been ranked as one of the progressive and productive members of the Senate. If you elect him to the presidency, he'll never stop fighting for your future.

JEFF MERKLEY: I'm Jeff Merkley, and I approve this message.

JEFF MERKLEY 2024

Oregon Live

Laser-Focus on New England:

Senator Merkley now believes his best chance to make a splash in the primary is to have a breakout performance in the key state of New Hampshire. His internal polling suggests he has a real chance to lock down many of the older voters who supported Bernie Sanders in the state in 2016 or 2020. Because of this, Senator Merkley will concentrate his campaigning heavily on the Granite State in coming months. He'll be heavily involved in barnstorming the state and meeting with his operatives in the state to discuss strategy.

The image he seeks to cast in the state is one of similar tenacity to Senator Sanders, but less abrasive. He will heavily emphasize his humble background and progressive values without engaging in heavy attacks on his rival candidates. The Senator will also continue to meet with college students, emphasizing his support for student loan cancellation, tuition free public college and Medicare for All. While Congressman Khanna may have more appeal among younger former Sanders supporters, the simple fact is that younger voters still played a crucial role in Sanders' two victories in the state and the Senator must obtain a strong performance with them to have any hope of a noteworthy result.

The Senator will put his record as a grassroots organizer to good use in the state, hoping that the small size of the state will allow his smaller operation to make a real dent. He will begin airing TV ads in the Fall, introducing the state's voters to him and his background. He will also mobilize an online fundraising push for him to be able to flood the airwaves from here to February. He will meet with local media as frequently as possible, hoping to garner endorsements from local papers. He'll also try to lock down the endorsements of as many state legislators who backed Senator Sanders in 2020 as he can. The state's relatively insulated politics, moreover the lagging Harris and Buttigieg campaigns in the state, just may be the opportunity for Senator Merkley to launch himself into a top-tier contender.

Surrogates:

In addition to his campaigning in New Hampshire, Senator Merkley will also attempt to gain a foothold in the neighbouring states to give him a foothold in more of the Super Tuesday states so his campaign doesn't putter out as one state wonder. With the endorsements of Senators Welch and Markey secured, Senator Merkley will appear alongside them as much as possible when touring their respective states.

In seeking out new endorsements, Senator Merkley will attempt to court more local progressives and elected officials to avoid the perception of his campaign being backed entirely by Washington insiders. In Vermont he will meet with Lieutenant Governor David Zuckerman, Former Senate PPT Tim Ashe and State Senator Kesha Ram Hinsdale, both as an attempt to gain their support, but also hoping to box Vermont progressives further in his corner and encourage Senator Sanders to support his candidacy.

In Boston, as Senator Merkley hammers on his campaign theme of housing and presents his plans as a solution to spiraling inaffordability in the city he will meet with Mayor Michelle Wu and court her endorsement. In addition he will meet with former gubernatorial candidate and State Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz. Senator Sanders' relatively weak margin in Suffolk was one of the major factors that led to his upset in the Bay State's 2020 primary and Senator Merkley hopes not to repeat that mistake by locking down prominent city progressives in his corner. Also hoping to bolster his chances in Massachusetts, Senator Merkley will continue his frequent meetings with Senator Elizabeth Warren, thanking her for her support on the DISCLOSE Act and continuing to emphasize their shared values on many of his key campaign issues.

In Maine, a relatively untouched state in the primary so far, Senator Merkley will attempt to court the endorsement of State Senate Majority Leader Troy Jackson. He will emphasize their similar background in logging communities and their status as occasional maverick Democrats who both backed Senator Sanders in 2016. This along with extensive campaigning among students at several Southern Maine colleges, fuels Senator Merkley's hopes that he can gain a foothold throughout the state and perhaps pull off a clean sweep of New England on Super Tuesday.

Statement from Kari Lake
Quote
Queen Nikki has removed herself from the ballot in Florida. She took her name right off of the paper. It's crazy. Why would you give up on a state like that? It makes no sense. Makes no sense. None.

That is, unless, as some have said, she came to a shady deal with Ron DeSantis to give him Florida without a fight. A lot of people have been saying DeSantis came to a deal with Queen Nikki. What did he give her? What did he trade her? We have to find out folks.

Gavin Newsom - For a Brighter Future

Despite the negative reviews of Governor Newsom's debate performance, his campaign felt reasonabily content with what Gavin managed to achieve, which is, as they put it, make the race more of a contest than a coronation. However, they do realize that in order for the Governor to have any chance, he needs to get rid of the "petty" label and create an articulate and positive message. As soon as the debate reviews came in, Governor Newsom and his team have decided that every reference to another candidate should be positive or neutral. Vice President Harris is the exception, but even so any attacks against her will be limited and only made when asked by voters in town halls.

Strategy-wise, the Newsom campaign knows only a few words: New Hampshire, New Hampshire, New Hampshire and Nevada, Nevada, Nevada. Outside of attending duties in California, for example when the Governor signed the Harm Reduction Bill into law, Gavin Newsom will stay laser-focused on these two states.

In New Hampshire, Governor Newsom's team thinks there is an wide open field, given that both Harris and Buttigieg have been declining, which is why heavy resources will be placed into the state. The Governor will be a constant presence and so will his ads. The message will be simple: Governor Newsom is an uniter who has had numerous accomplishments in California and is ready to win and implement the progressive vision nationwide. Affordable healthcare, minimum wage increase and the right to choose are just some highlights. No effort will be spared trying to court the endorsements of the NH Senators, Representatives and friendly state officials and legislators.

In Nevada, the message will be similar, with more of an emphasis on immigration reform, gun control and support for unions. The endorsements of Nevada politicians and the Culinary Union will also be sought. Newsom has declared his support for Senator Gillibrand's Family Bill of Rights and Senator Merkley's DISCLOSE Act, but once again called on his fellow candidates to sign the "No Dark Money" pledge.

Ro Khanna 2024

Statements on bills

Family Bill of Rights
Quote
Senator Gilibrand has been noted for her tireless advocacy of family issues across the board. Things like paid sick leave shouldn' be controversial, but here we are. I'm proud to be supporting the Family Bill of Rights and hope to work with Senator Gilibrand on crafting further legislation in this area.

DISCLOSE Act

Quote
Senator Merkley's bill provides us with amsolution to a problem that has infected modern politics. Dark money, whatever its source, is a scourge on democracy, and has been ever since the Citizens United decisions. I am proud to co-sponsor the Senator's bill in the House, and start solving this issue before it gets worse.

Stop the Censorship Act

Quote
I've never been comfortable with the amount of control tech companies like Twitter have over public discourse in this country. Everyone wants their short screengrab these days; and it becomes all to easy to cast your opponents in the worst light

That said, I don't believe this is the right way to go about it. I unfortunately must vote against this bill when it comes to the floor

Sanders-Tillis Act
Quote
Our veterans have been left behind for far too long by an ooverworked, understaffed VA with higher-ups more intent on getting their bonuses than actually taking care of our war veterans. I'm proud to vote in support of the Sanders-Tillis Act.

Heading into the primaries

Ro's climb in the polls had been slow, but steady. He hadn't expected South Carolina to be fertile ground for him in the first place; Harris would likely charge away with the south. So, Ro looked to plant himself in nevada to try and make a decent showing there. The entire month of October saw Ro campaign heavily across that state, including attending meetings and speaking to the membership of Nevada's powerful Culinary Union. Ro's base was organised labour, so he needed to lock up that demographic as quickly as he could.

He met with rank-and-file workers across the state from mvie theatres to hotel attendants. He made sure to speak at all four public universities in the state as well: Grant Basin College, Nevada State College, the Univeristy of Nevada, las Vegas, and the University of Nevada, Reno. At all four univeristies, he emphasised the most popular parts of his youth platform: tuition-free public colleges, a raise in the minimum wage, and a promise to invest heavily in small businesses that many students would likely end up trying their hands at.

Most of November was taken up by meetings with important people and cutting the first major ads of the campaign. He continued meeting with Mayor Bass on a variety of issues, particularly housing. Most openly though, he continued holding meetings with other House progressives; Jamaal Bowman, Ayanna Pressley, Summer Lee, and the newest addition, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Given Merkley's strength with everyone else, Ro had to turn out youth voters in massive numbers. He also had to counter Merkley's focus in New England, and sought the endorsement of Vermont's sole member of the House, Becca Balint, and Michelle Wu, the Mayor of Boston, speaking with special interest in her plan to guarantee legal represenatation for evicted tenants, a policy Ro wants to take to the nation.

Building on this, Ro planted himself firmly in New England for most of November and December, touring organised labout meetings and college campuses. He kept emphasising his key point across it all: He wanted everyone who had turned up to his rallies to go and vote early. He kept up his strategy of building contacts with local leaders before anyone else, to allow support to spread out from there.

As the New Year dawned, Ro began to double down on solidifying his base of young voters and organised labour. He touted the support of the CWA, the first union to endorse any candidate, and used this when he met with Mary Kay Henry, President of the SEIU, early in January. Ro returned to Nevada, and spoke again on his usual circuit before heading up to New Hampshire and planting himself there for the rest of January, and then jumping over to Massachusetts in February.

He had to perform well in Nevada and New Hampshire, or he was finished.

Gillibrand Campaign Ad: Girls Can Do Anything
Aired in IA, NH, NV

Accessed via Imgur

"I'm 9 years old and I want to publish a book I wrote."

"Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubman are two of my favorites 'cause they did a lot to try and make the world a better place, and I like documentaries and stuff."

"I know a lot about the people that are going to be and trying to be President, and I'm really excited that we're going to try to have a female President."

"I think it would be really great and it would inspire a lot of other people, and a lot of other girls, to be what they want to be, even if they're a little kid like me."

"Women have equal rights as men."

Kirsten talking to little girl: It says "Be Heard. Your voice matters. Love, Kirsten Gillibrand."

Kirsten: Turn around and say hi to your mom. Say hi to your Mommy.

Parent: The fact that she's shown an interest in coming out and hearing, really anybody speak, but especially a woman that has been so successful and wants to try to make this country a better place, I think is a great example for my daughters.

Other Parent: Kirsten Gillibrand not only inspires me, but she inspires my daughters and little girls across the United States to never stop fighting. I'm a first time voter, and I'm voting for Kirsten Gillibrand.

Statements from Nikki Haley

Quote from: Statement on the Stop the Censorship Act
For too long, Big Tech has used their power and influence over political discourse to censor Americans who are simply trying to make their voices heard, especially those with conservative viewpoints.  I strongly support the Stop the Censorship Act and I hope Congress passes it.  If not, then I hope to working with the next Congress to enact it as president.

Quote from: Statement on the Sanders-Tillis Act
I am very pleased that the Senate is trying to find a bipartisan solution to the abysmal state of the Department of Veterans' Affairs.  Under the Obama and Biden Administrations, the VA has neglected our veterans, undermining their health insurance coverage and becoming rife with political corruption.  I strongly support this bill.

Quote from: Statement on the Family Bill of Rights
Paid family and medical leave for all Americans is an admirable goal, but unfortunately, this bill does not allow small businesses who cannot afford such expenses to offer unpaid leave.  As such I regrettably cannot support this legislation.  As president, I'll work with Congress to pass a family leave act that will not harm our small businesses while still strengthening families.

Debate Rules and Regulations

Welcome to the second debate of What Comes After. Debates in this game will be important in delineating differences between candidates, and forcing you to take tough positions. It will give you a chance to attack your opponents, and show why you're the best candidate. This opens up potential endorsements and other sources of support. Debates will be judged on the cohesiveness of your answers (not, cohesiveness is not grammar, people don't always speak in good grammar, but I will expect your remarks to be readable obviously), and rhetorical skill. There will be a host of different kind of questions. You are also invited (optional) to post another written statement, rebutting the views of others or attacking other candidates. Answers should be of reasonable lengths. Do not get into back and forths. Please, please, do not get into back and forths. Make your debate post and be done with it you will not be rewarded for going back and forth, I don't need that. Not four sentences, and also not two paragraphs. Responses are due at the end of turn (NOT midturn).

Des Moines Republican Debate

Jesse Watters: Welcome to the Republican Presidential Debate here in the Des Moines Civic Center. I'm Jesse Watters of Fox News, I'm joined by FOX family members Pete Hegseth and Katie Pavlich. Today we're moderating the second Republican debate for President of the United States. We'd like to thank the venue, the city of Des Moines, and our guests, Senator Ernst, Governor Reynolds, and Congresswoman Miller-Meeks and Congressman Nunn, and we extend our well wishes to Senator Grassley, who is currently hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery. We wish you the best of health Senator. Let's begin.

1. Under President Biden America has witnessed a shocking border crisis, with total madness and chaos as thousands of people and unlimited drugs, fentanyl, cocaine, pours into the United States. What steps will you take to bring this crisis under control, and also, how do you approach immigration in general? Do we need controls on all immigration?

2. Raise your hand if you support cost-controlling reforms to entitlement programs that Senate and House Republicans such as Scott Perry and Jim Jordan are supporting. (You may write one sentence)

3. Do you support continued monetary and weapons aide to Ukraine in their fight against Putin's Russia?

4. What will you do to end the spread of Marxism, woke ideology, and Critical Race Theory in America's public schools?

5. Do you believe that free trade is a net benefit for the American economy?

Personalized Questions:
To Governor DeSantis: Do you support American military intervention to remove the socialist Maduro regime in Venezuela?
To Governor Noem: Governor, Ronald Reagan said that the 11th Commandment was not to speak ill of another Republican. Do you think you've been unfair to any of the other candidates in your attacks?
To Senator Hawley: Do you support the overturn of Obergefell v. Hodges and return of control over marriage to the states?
To Governor Hogan: Would you require Supreme Court appointees under a potential Hogan administration to support upholding Dobbs vs. Jackson?
To Governor Youngkin: You've staked a lot of your campaign on your ability to win in Virginia, a state Biden won by 10. Do you think there are any Republicans running for President right now who are not electable?
To Ambassador Haley: You're a strong supporter of the State of Israel. Do you support meeting with controversial Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir as a part of diplomatic discussions with Israel?
To Representative Amash: Congressman, if you fail to win the Republican nomination will you still run as a libertarian?
To Mr. Stone: Some feel that you have been marketing a different Stone to different audiences depending on political expediency. What is the real Roger Stone? What would be your governing philosophy as President?
To Ms. Lake: You've come out strongly against entitlement reforms. You've said former President Trump is the only good billionaire. Do you consider yourself a fiscal conservative? Do you support tax cuts? Do you support free markets?
To Representative Gaetz: Congressman Mike Rogers of Alabama joked to a reporter the other day that you have done nothing whatsoever in your time of Congress aside from getting the phone numbers of female staff members. What have you done in Congress?

6. Rebuttal Period/Free Space

South Carolina Democratic Debate

Jake Tapper: Welcome to the CNN Democratic Presidential debate. We're joined at the Gaillard Center in Charleston South Carolina by all of the Democratic candidates for president, and DNC Chairman Jaimie Harrison and Congressman Jim Clyburn in the audience. I'm Jake Tapper, I'll be moderating tonights debate alongside my colleagues Dana Bash, Chris Wallace, and Jorge Ramos. I'd like to thank the city of Charleston, and the Gaillard Center for hosting tonight.

1. What is your approach to immigration policy. Do you support increasing the cap for asylum seekers and refugees? Do you support more liberal measures like decriminalizing illegal border crossings into the United States?

2. There has been an uptick of crime, especially in urban areas like New York City and Chicago since the COVID-19 pandemic. What measures will you support to bring crime, theft, and gun violence under control?

3. What measures would you take as President to protect access to abortion for women in states where state governments have taken measures against abortion rights? What about measures for LGBT people?

4. Are you concerned about Saudi interference in American elections? How do you view our relationship with the Kingdom in general, is it time to re-evaluate what has been a longstanding alliance?

5. Raise your hand if you a gun buyback program, voluntary or mandatory. (You may write one sentence)

Personalized Questions:
To Vice President Harris: Many general election polls have shown you trailing Republican frontrunner Governor Ron DeSantis, can Democrats trust you to keep the White House in Democratic hands?
To Vice President Gore: Back in the 1980s and 1990s you had a reputation as a moderate, even conservative Democrat. Can Democrats trust you too advance a progressive agenda if you're elected on healthcare, family leave, and other key issues?
To Secretary Buttigieg: Mr. Secretary, what is your current home state? You were Mayor of South Bend Indiana, but you now have residence in Michigan, is that correct?
To Governor Whitmer: Would you sign the PRO Act, which protects collective bargaining on a national level, if elected President?
To Governor Newsom: Governor, there's been a lot of back and forth on the campaign trail over healthcare, and your position on it, and how specific your demands are here. If a plan for single-payer healthcare came to your desk that was not your own, would you sign it?
To Representative Khanna: You represent much of Silicon Valley. Would you support legislation to break up big tech companies? Do you support more government regulation of social media companies?
To Senator Merkley: Would you support the imposition of a Wealth Tax, akin to the ones proposed by Senator Warren and Sanders in 2020? What about a financial transaction tax?
To Senator Gillibrand: You recently accused Mayor Adams of sexism in some of his remarks directed at you on the campaign trail. Do you have anything more to say on that? Do you think the Mayor is a sexist?
To Mayor Adams: As Mayor of New York you signed a budget with strong cuts to education, including to city libraries, by many millions of dollars. Was this really necessary, is this consistent with the values of the Democratic Party?

LIN WOOD PROTESTS REPUBLICAN DEBATE, REFUSES TO SHOW UP DESPITE MILLION DOLLAR CHECK FROM DEBATE SPONSOR, ANSWERS QUESTIONS ON NEWSMAX!

When I wrote my book, "Burn: How to Stop Democrat Agenda of Child Mutilation and Immigrant Diseases," I spent an entire chapter talking about how "President" Biden is letting drugs pour into our BEAUTIFUL AMERICA. Instead, Joe should pour the drugs into my mouth. I'd rather me take the brunt of the drugs than our WONDERFUL WHITE CHILDREN. And that's not racist because my makeup artist is gay. Under the Lin Wood administration, ALL immigration will be outlawed. There will only be NATURAL NORMAL PURIFIED AMERICANS IN AMERICA. If you or your parents came here illegally, say goodbye! We gon send you back to Mexico (pronounced meh-HE-coh).

2. Raise your hand if you support cost-controlling reforms to entitlement programs that Senate and House Republicans such as Scott Perry and Jim Jordan are supporting. (You may write one sentence)

I support eliminating all entitlement programs. If you're old, tough. Tough it out like my grandfather Stonewall Jackson did with his buddy Robert E. Lee.

3. Do you support continued monetary and weapons aide to Ukraine in their fight against Putin's Russia?

No. I was hesitant but after listening to my lover, Tulsi Gabbard, I came to my senses. Once I switched my position, the Samoan let me put some moh in her. Ukrainian Nazis must never receive our support. It is inherently UNAMERICAN to support the WOKE RADICAL LEFTIST MARXIST CLINTONITE UKRAINIAN NAZI ZELENSKYY. Russia is acting as a saver of sorts. They are saving the Ukrainian people from tyranny. So to them, I say, SLAVA RUSSIA!

4. What will you do to end the spread of Marxism, woke ideology, and Critical Race Theory in America's public schools?

Simple. Abolish all schools for female students and only allow purified male students to enter public education at age 17. PROBLEM SOLVED!

5. Do you believe that free trade is a net benefit for the American economy?

I believe in NO trade. We need to make EVERYTHING in America. What happened to us helping our favorite corporations. Frankly, we need to sell elements of the federal government to Amazon, Walmart, and Tesla so that we can recuperate our investments and do the other things that must be done. DOJ, BYE BYE. Say goodbye to the DOJ, Department of State, DHS, and the EPA. We're selling them to the Waltons, Jeff BOZOS, and Elon.

6. For reasons unknown to all Americans with sense, Lin was not given a personalized question, so he wrote one for himself: What do you believe America's role should be in the Israel-Palestine conflict? Do you believe in a Two State solution? And what are your thoughts on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calling you a "notorious and dangerous antisemite?"

That's a stupid question. I don't know who wrote it but whoever did, you're fired. Get out of my board room. I am proudly endorsed by all of the sharks from Shark Tank. Mr. Wonderful, Robert Herjavec, Mark Cuban, Lori Grenier, Barbara Corcoran, and even Daymond. If that doesn't show my economic acumen, I don't know what will. I have the tools necessary for victory in 2024 and if the Republican Party doesn't give me it, I WILL TAKE IT. *begins pounding fists on the podium like Hitler* WE MUST TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY FROM THE BOURGEOISIE. 我们将为工人、人民和习近平夺回美利坚合众国。请注意,这是一个新时代的黎明。林伍德的时代,林伍德的时代,林伍德的时代。今天就加入我,否则后果自负!

The Joe Rogan Experience

In early December, Stone earned the opportunity of a lifetime: an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, the nation's most popular and influential podcast. Stone sat down with Rogan in his Austin, TX, studio to pitch his candidacy and discuss issues of the day:

ROGAN: You've done some wild sh**t, dude. You've said some wild sh**t, too.

STONE: I readily admit that. Sometimes you need to be a little outrageous to make a difference. You know, my life is an open book, Joe. I have nothing to hide. I've never lived my life as a politician because I've never been a politician. Voters appreciate that. I'm a man who speaks his mind and calls out bullsh**t. You're not going to always agree with me, nor do I expect people to, but you know that I actually believe in something. That's part of what I feel the Stone charm is all about.

Compare that to the career politicians, the Governors and Senators running across both parties. They often have something to hide. They focus test every last word of theirs down to the syllable and mold their story to an image they're not always actually like. When their words don't match up to reality, we've got to call them out on that. So, consider Roger Stone as a diamond in the rough in that regard.

ROGAN: Here's the thing, also. Like . . . you're known as Trump's guy, and you've done a lot to stick up for the former President, but I've followed you for years and there are so many more dimensions to you than just that. You're much more of a libertarian, which I dig. You've done these big exposés on the Bushes, the Clintons, JFK. Everyone else has been scared to really talk about some of these big issues under the surface like overreach on vaccines and big tech censorship. I mean, you're-

STONE: A free spirit.

ROGAN: Exactly. And that's what I find so refreshing about you.

STONE: Well, I'm just going to add that I'm much more in touch with the regular Joe than many of my counterparts running. That's because I've always actually been on the ground, soaking in real people's thoughts and feelings about our country, and we march together for our freedoms. You know as well as I do, Joe, that many of these guys will leave their cushy offices once in a while, nod their heads at their town halls, maybe do a drive-by fist pump, and then immediately call their donors ready to hear their next instructions. I've seen the worst of the worst over my time. My campaign is about representing real people, working class people of all stripes, and being their conduit to make an actual, substantive change in our lives. This country has been screwed over by the elitists and the professional class for far too long.

ROGAN: Couldn't agree more. I'll mention, by the way, that you've shined a spotlight on the record of Ron DeSantis that he probably doesn't want people to know about. I know I've learned a thing or two. You really think he's a snake?

STONE: A particularly venomous one. He's carefully curated a certain image, but I don't at all begrudge his supporters. You want to believe in the best of a person, after all. An important role of the primaries is to educate the public on the candidates over time, and I'll continue doing my part to make my own case while exposing who might be acting more in bad faith.

ROGAN: Man, one thing everyone can agree on is you'll do it in your own signature Roger Stone way.

STONE: Got that right. *laughs*

This appearance is considered to be a pivotal moment for Stone as the new year approaches. Stone gave his pitch to millions of viewers and listeners, many of whom are not typically devoted to Republican affairs. The candidate doubled down on being the most authentically Trumpist voice running, but he was also able to highlight his unique background, positions, and outsider message to prove that he is far from a one-trick pony. One might even call him a man of the people—the candidate far more attuned and responsive to regular voters than his opponents, especially those long ambitious in elected office.

After the interview, the campaign certainly hopes to have made a lasting impression on Rogan and count him as a supporter. Even beyond Rogan the man, however, the campaign is diligently picking up on the support of the broadly disaffected: those who may be on the outskirts of the GOP, those who may not neatly fit in either party, and even those who do not participate much in the political process. In other words, those not unlike Rogan. Stone believes he has the message, the connections, and the organization best equipped to capitalize on these voters. As the campaign recruits and motivates these supporters over time, their presence may be especially prominent in open primary states like New Hampshire that allow easier access to participate. For primaries and caucuses closed to registered Republicans, the Stone campaign has built the greatest foundation of the field to identify supporters of differing affiliations, establish regular contact, and subsequently provide ample guidance and motivation to change registrations. From there, new Republicans (as well as old) also receive the latest information on how the primaries and caucuses will be set up for their states.

Notes: With these new releases, Hawley's ad campaign really kicks into gear, now taking up air time in all 4 early states for October and November. The first of these ads broadcasts in Iowa and South Carolina, highlighting the rhetorical distinction between him and other major candidates on abortion, which has become a major point of contrast for Hawley as other candidates putz and flip-flop on the issue. For born-again voters, an especially critical voting bloc in these states, this has become a hot-button issue that has catapulted Hawley up the primary ladder as DeSantis's frontrunner status recedes. Advisers say he should press on it in Iowa up until the caucuses.

Sen. Hawley's 2nd ad juxtaposes his message brilliantly and sets the stage for his team's efforts in Nevada and New Hampshire, which is where it will be aired for October and November. The populist fervor coupled with a tough lawyer attitude aligns with his impressive resume neatly, painting Hawley as an exceptional conservative warrior with a record of fighting and winning. In states like Nevada and New Hampshire, two states Team Hawley thinks are critical for landing impressive performances, it could make him much more attractive to primary voters that nominated Donald Trump (in 2016), as well as Adam Laxalt and Don Bolduc (in 2022).
