Since it doesn't look like we have a megathread on this race yet.

His cousin, Riley Moore is also running for the House. Should he win then half of WV’s delegation will be Moore Capitos

I expect Morrissey to run as well for governor as well.

He said he is open to running for re-election as AG, Governor, Senate, or House. And I don't see him running against Justice if he runs for senate.

Possible Manchin decides to switch to this race? He floated a return to the governorship in 2020 already and many times said he preferred this position to the senate. Tbh, I think his chances would be better here. Statewide race is less nationalized and it's an open seat.

He will make a decision after the Debt Ceiling RH is likely to pass a WVA pipeline how do you know Manchin is the underdog we held onto KS GOV an R plus 20 state and we won KY it's not 23 yet Gallego and Manchin are gonna run after the Debt Ceiling

As I said users keep focused on OH and NC example of us losing red states but never look at KS or KY Gov Doug Jones situation was totally different it was AL

Jay Rockefeller and Byrd won multiple times not just once line Doug Jones, Doug Jones lost 60/40 the last poll had Manchin -5 against Mooney that means he is outpolling Ds in WV by 15 pts

Guess what Biden is leading Trump in FL, and Stein is leading in NC WI, PA, MI, AZ, FL, and VA are the 335 blue wall states just like 20 but the economy improved before Eday without inflation that's why it was a 303 EDay

Manchin would still lose the Governor's race. West Virginia is just too Republican now.

If he really wants to run for something, he should just run for reelection.

Manchin betrayed West Virginia by voting for the Green New Deal Lite and getting nothing in return.
He is dead on arrival.

News flash:

He would have been DOA even he'd voted against it.

The (D) next to his name sinks him, not his voting record.

Secretary of State Mac Warner is in.

Quote
Secretary of State Mac Warner became the latest candidate in a growing race for governor, emphasizing both public service and a battle against “woke” Washington, D.C.

Warner made his announcement at the state Capitol at the War Memorial, surrounded by a crowd of supporters that included many veterans.

“You see, leadership, dedication to duty, and service above self is what separates me – and all fellow patriots here today – from others who may seek the highest office in our state. We live in serious times, and serious times call for serious leaders,” Warner told the crowd.

Warner has been Secretary of State since 2017 after being beating then-incumbent Democrat Natalie Tennant. This, his second term, would end on Jan. 13, 2025, just as the next governor would be taking office.

Manchin's chances would be better off if he switched to the GOP and ran for Senate.

No kidding, and Susan Collins would have won in a landslide in 2020 if she flipped D, but it's not gonna happen.

So it is either a forlorn hope of re-election or retirement for him, then.

He is running for reelection just like Sinema and Feinstein, Feinstein can win because it's a runoff if the top vote getter doesn't get 50 it goes to a runoff and Feinstein can win the runoff with 46 and win the runoff 52 and then Porter can run for Gov that's why it's premature on both Feinstein and Sinema

Honestly, this may be something he should seriously consider. All said and done, he's definitely doomed in 2024-SEN, but a gubernatorial bid might be a different story. In all likelihood he's done now - WV is too red, polarisation too high, etc. etc. (after all, back in 2020, even longtime, Blue Dog statewide officeholders who were Democrats got booted out - such as the incumbent treasurer, who lost by 12 points) - and he should just retire in 2024, but if nothing else, switching to the governor's race would at least be kind of interesting for us politics nerds (like seeing where he overperforms and by how much).

He is not making it through a GOP primary. All in all, his best course is to retire in 2024 from politics altogether. No switching to the GOP, no running for reelection, no gubernatorial bid. Just "retire" from politics, and then immediately become a lobbyist for the fossil fuel industry.

Why? It’s pretty common to take a mothers last name as a kids first or middle name, especially in the south.

He did not preclude either running for reelection or for POTUS, nor did he rule out running as a Pub for either office.
