Quote
Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán came under pressure to apologise after posting a video of himself at a football match wearing a scarf that depicted historical Hungary, including parts of Ukraine and neighbouring countries.

Ukraine’s foreign ministry spokesperson Oleg Nikolenko said on Tuesday Kyiv would summon Hungary’s ambassador “who will be informed of the unacceptability of Viktor Orbán’s act”.

“The promotion of revisionism ideas in Hungary does not contribute to the development of Ukrainian-Hungarian relations and does not comply with the principles of European policy,” Nikolenko wrote on Facebook. “We are waiting for an official apology from the Hungarian side and a refutation of the encroachments on the territorial integrity of Ukraine.”

Ukrainian media showed images of Orbán meeting a Hungarian footballer wearing a scarf which the outlet Ukrainska Pravda reported depicted a map of “Greater Hungary” including territory that is now part of the neighbouring states of Ukraine, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Croatia and Serbia.

Romania complained as well. Austria's Foreign Ministry joked: "A quick glance at historical maps in the Viennese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed initial suspicions, according to which Translithania (the Kingdom of Hungary) ceased to exist around 100 years ago We will inform our Hungarian neighbours of this development at the earliest opportunity."

"Greater" Hungary includes parts of Austria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.

LOL.
Great response from Austria. Humors both Hungary and other nations while going right to the point.

See, I think it’s time the Austrians just rule over all the region again. Including Croatia and Bosnia. My grandmother agrees strongly with this. In her own words “The Austrians made our city beautiful.”

The Hungarian Parliament Building and Hungarian State Opera House are more beautiful than any buildings in Austria and were both designed by ethnic Hungarians.

Hungarian irredentism is arguably the least offensive and ahistorical national narrative of greater-Balkan land claims, which says more about the rest of the region than anything else.

Seles is from Serbia, albeit the Hungarian minority part.

Is she a "greater Hungary" stan?

Bosniaks are fairly decent compared to their Serb and Croat neighbors…but that may be more because they really can’t claim too much.

That's because the word "greater" is pulling a lot of weight here. No one thinks of Hungary as "Balkan".

It actually is, most of the time.

Since all of these countries are between 0.95 and 1.05 Astronomical Units from the sun, they are actually part of Greater Albania. Esteemed historians and diplomats Etnon, Lyrical Son, and DJ Blunt made that clear years ago.
