He's somewhat above average here, I'd say. However, I don't think he really looks like a president. Mitt Romney for example looked more like that, and still looks younger than he actually is.

He's able to disguise how fat he is a lot better than most people. Though I definitely think if Trump hadn't been president then I think DeSantis's obesity would be a bigger problem for him.

I don't think that level of overweight has ever been a problem in american politics. He's not Chris Christie and even Christie was governor and was seen by some as a presidential favourite.

In 2018 and during his congressional tenure DeSantis was actually quite fit and handsome. He's gained maybe 35 pounds since then. I actually believe that losing some weight would greatly help his candidacy. The whole appeal of DeSantis' campaign would be that he is a youthful, energetic, productive conservative but not crazy alternative to Trump and then Biden. That is magnified when he is also fit and looks the part.

Remember that Biden is in about as good of a physical shape as an 80 year old can be. From the collarbone down Biden cuts a better image than DeSantis in a suit. He's also quite short for a Presidential candidate. Trump will tower over him and so will Biden to a lesser extent. If he's fat than the youthfulness/'virility' argument becomes less potent.
