You know it amazes me how republicans are so quick to unite behind Dave McCormick, but weren't willing to do the same in just about every battleground race (except Georgia, North Carolina, and Nevada) last year.

I wonder if part of it is animosity towards Fetterman. GOP donors/operatives feel like losing to Fetterman was less justifiable than losing to Kelly, Cortez Masto, Warnock or Hassan and they only lost to him because Dr. Oz was a cartoonishly terrible candidate. They're rallying around McCormick because they think he could have beaten Fetterman, so they're willing to give him another chance at the Senate.

I'm not necessarily saying all of this is true, but it's worth considering as a possible explanation.

The real reason is because an anti-Trump billionaire candidate like McCormick makes the GOP establishment fall in love and cream their pants, so they'll do literally anything for him. Same reason they hyped up O'Dea last year so much only for him to underperform Trump by 2%.

How early in the 2020 cycle did Stacy Garrity announce for Treasurer?

Does it bode well for her that by October she seems to have attracted no significant opposition, while DeFoor has attracted lots of attention and a top-tier opponent?

Democratic State Representative Ryan Bizzarro, from Erie County, has been running a shadow campaign for Treasurer for months, and officially announced several hours ago.  He’s held on to a purplish State House seat for years now, and is well-known for his animal welfare activism.  He’ll likely eventually run for Governor, but for now he’s a solid recruit for Treasurer, and having him on the 2024 ballot should help statewide candidates with margins in Erie.

It’s crazy how bad the GOP bench is here. Oz and this guy are the kind of rich guy weirdos the GOP should be scrounging up in like NY or CA, not this swing state where they held majorities in the legislature and house delegation until recently.

That line "I didn't grow up on the farm, I just own it" is just a beauty. Feudalism is back!

2022 Senate candidate Carla Sands seems to be hinting on X towards running. Obviously McCormick is all but guaranteed to win, but it'll be interesting to see whether she'll get thr same sort of "backlash" support to McCormick that Barnette got.

I wonder if Trump would endorse her?

Could end up being a horse-race in the end.

I don't think Trump will get involved.
Daines is keeping Trump from endorsing anyone else, but Trump won't endorse someone who isn't supportive of him.

He seems to live in a world where only fellow finances bros count as people. The latter position in particular is straight up toxic, and I have no idea why he would want to appear on the side of Big Pharma in an older state like PA

Was coming to post and say this. He's been in the race for 3 seconds and has already given Dems like 5 huge oppo dumps just from him opening his mouth.

This seems to be mainly a question of willingness to run; there are plenty of Republican electeds in Pennsylvania from all stripes. None of the serious ones have stuck their necks out for a statewide run in a few cycles. This is actually a consistent theme going back many cycles, now that I think about it.

And when one of those does run, it's some complete weirdo like Mastriano or that House member who lost to Casey last time, aka even worse candidates. Seems like a fairly dysfunctional state party.

It feels like they don't actually have to change that much of the 2022 playbook against Oz for it to work against McCormack. Even past the residency problem (lol, how does this keep happening), he's shaping up to be just as ludicrous a campaigner in many of the same ways.

Yikes. And people really thought this dude was a stronger candidate Dr. Oz. That might have been the most cringe take in a while.

There's no good way to spin the Connecticut issue, only relatively good ways. If Pennsylvanians rejected someone in New Jersey, I don't see why they wouldn't also reject someone in Connecticut, which is two states farther away. To the extent that residency even matters, anyhow.

Well and they are trying to spin the CT thing as "oh he's just a divorced dad who wants to see his daughter"

Okay... but the fact of the matter is that still means you do not live in PA full time, and are going to need to spend quite a lot of time in CT. So maybe that means you should not be running to be a senator in PA then? Seems like that would solve the problem!
