What does the ILGOP do now? They for the first time since 2006 allowed a Democratic incumbent governor to win reelection in his own right.

Why didn't the ILGOP run on injured Chicago police officer Danny Golden, who is paralyzed because of 3 men shooting him after trying to break up a fight at a bar?

They had an ample opportunity to highlight crime, and yet, it fell flat.

Why?

How did the ILGOP lose Chicagoland suburbs? They couldn't run ads about Officer Golden's ailments to rouse votes in DuPage?

The Collar Counties have become more diverse in the last several decades - for many decades they were very white and conservative, but that stopped being the case after the mid-2000s or so. Now, there is only one remaining reliably red Collar County - McHenry - but I think if current trends continue, it, too, will become a reliably blue county within another generation, if not sooner.

Move to Wisconsin and Michigan to turn them lean red. Not a bad strategy guys.

Same thing that happened in 2014. Wait for state dems to become unpopular enough or screw up. Of course that's harder right now cause Madigan is gone and Pritzker has national ambitions so is on good behavior mode.

So you're keeping your schtick of being a northern, Frank Rizzo-esque racist "just asking questions" I see.

Illinois Democrats did not have that great of a night, but partially because Democrats left virtually all rural districts uncontested. The Democrats did well in most suburbs, but Will County was unimpressive. And omg.. St Clair County.. yikes

They did highlight crime quite extensively during the GOP primary against my mayor, Richard Irvin, and during the actual campaign against Pritzker. Now, it might've had some impact if it wasn't for them constantly portraying Chicago as some kind of a hellscape where you're gonna immediately get shot the second you step into the city.

The IL GOP is effectively on life support for the foreseeable future.

Rauner utterly annihilated the "socially ambiguous business friendly" wing of the party by being so uniquely terrible at the job, and the attempt to revive it by running Irvin crashed and burned.

Griffin jumping ship will further kill their finances, and being reliant on Uihlein & Proft mean more and more Darren Bailey-esque candidates going forward.

So all indications are they're going to nominate more candidates who lose DuPage by ~15 not less, because the party is more interested in purity than winning right now.

They actually did better than average this year.  Just wait it out, basically.
