If Trump turns on Israel and promises to cut all aid to Israel if he wins in 2024, could that actually help Trump and hurt DeSantis?

I doubt it makes much of a difference.

No GOP primary voters (and American voters in general) are pro Israel. .

Not as crazy as you think. Remember, he trashed Netanyahu for not recognizing him as the winner of the 2020 election and he's gone on antisemitic rants since. He's a petty, stupid person loyal to no one. I trust Joe Biden with Israel's safety far more than I do him, to say nothing of DeSantis.

Trump was probably the most pro-Israel president in US history, so that line of attack doesn’t really make much sense. I think attacking DeSantis as a neocon globalist could be effective except that Trump seems to mainly want to attack him for not kissing the ring rather than debate policy.

Trump could go all in on the America first thing by apologizing for giving aid to Israel and promising to cut all aid to Israel if he’s elected President again. He could also just paint DeSantis as an agent of aipac

Very few people outside of young people on the internet are actually offended by US support of Israel, so why bother trying to make a scene over that of all things? It would offend the evangelicals, and they worship Trump the most so it would be foolish to antagonize them.

Yep. It's not out of the question that he could turn on Israel, but it would be very stupid politics.

Trump seems to have turned on Bibi because he congratulated Biden’s win.

The most anti-Israel people in the US tend to be very left-wing and/or of Arab descent and/or of the Muslim faith. None of those three are accessible groups for either Trump or DeSantis, so there's not much to gain, but there's a lot to lose because evangelicals are very pro-Israel. Even if the GOP goes full paleocon, which I doubt it will, Israel will be one of the last countries they throw under the bus

With everything, when it comes to Trump, its all about his ego and his narcissism.

Its like he told I think Kemp or Raffensberger when they said it was impossible for him to win, "clearly you don't like Trump" as if it is a separate entity, or obviously, a brand. You praise the brand, he will like you, you go against the brand and goes for the jugular.

Which is why it's at least somewhat plausible that Trump would try to turn his back on Israel, and I think there is a certain portion of the Trump base that is so blindly loyal to him (and to a smaller but not-insignificant extent, the portion of the right which has negative views of Israel for...reasons) that would go for it. But that's a smaller portion of the GOP base than those that are pro-Israel and have been since the creation of Israel.

Trump himself doesn't care about Israel or anything else other than his own desperation for power, but I still don't think he's stupid enough to not understand that being pro-Israel has been conservative religion since before he was even in the picture, and he alone can't change that. If he tries, it's going to be great news for DeSantis, not bad news as OP is wondering.

It's funny. Both Evangelicals and hard-core Israelis hate American Jews and use anti-semitic dogwhistles against them. Maybe funny isn't the right word

No. Republican primary voters love Israel. Attacking DeSantis for his Israel stance is fringe Gen Z extremely-onlineism.

This, and they're the ones who call anything less than complete, total and unequivocal support for Israel 'anti-Semitism' (while, at the same time, *certain Republicans* consider actual anti-Semites to be FF's).

Big whoop, MTG. You (and your party, but you and a few others in particular) openly support domestic terrorism. Perhaps THAT should be of a bit more concern than two countries halfway across the globe.
