The ironic thing is, before he proceeded to invoke both issues himself, I was in the process of comparing Trump's statement that Scott highlighted to the response he gave to the 2015 debate question about "What conservatism means to him" and rather than give the Reaganite neoliberal/neocon/social conservatism response Rubio gave, said it was about "protecting your life, your family, your job and your way of life".

Its a much "more traditional" (as in pre-Reagan traditional) understanding of conservatism and one that is much more in line with the interests of the Midwest (Since at the time the GOP was more centered in that region).
