In 2000, there was a U.S. House candidate who couldn't even win a Democratic primary in his home district.  Eight years later, he won that district as president-elect.  A meteoric rise.

So I guess one place to look would be at all the people who lost their primaries this year for House seats lol

A lot can happen in less than a decade!
