I am not saying this ever would happen, but wouldn't it be a crazy midterm shakeup if the October surprise is Iran and Russia both changing leaders?

I don't really see how that would affect US midterm elections, but it would be an astounding development as far as international news goes.

The widely hated Putin AND Ayatollah collapsing would likely help Biden a lot tbh.

A lot of the MAGA people would be upset if Putin was overthrown. Same with a lot of Iranian Americans born between 1985 and 1999 if Ayatollah Khamenei is overthrown.

I mean quite a few Russians are protesting right now tbf.

And China has possibly the oldest revolutionary tradition of any country. It almost invariably takes the form of demanding a more livable kind of tyranny, but it goes so far back in Chinese history that I think it should command some respect anyway.

How might the map change if Biden finds the Fountain of Youth and distributes the elixir of immortality to all Americans? I personally think Democrats would lose 10 seats in the senate due to a hard R swing among medical professionals and hospital administrators angry about being put out of work.

To be far less America-centric, it would also be welcomed by tons of people in Iraq and Syria.

My worry is how large are these protests actually. Is this genuinely some Arab Spring moment, or are we just seeing response bias. I’m not saying this to be annoying, I hope they are widespread but it’s hard to tell.

I think if they weren't genuinely widespread they would have been crushed by now.

8 days and they haven't got them under control. That should frighten any regime.

The nervousness of the regime about them is very obvious as well, which tells its own story.

Seems like a big deal.  Not only are protests going strong outside of Tehran, but, if this is accurate, apparently they have succeeded in severing government control in some places.

We're operating in a very low information environment, honestly this feels worse (in terms of how much we know) than the early days of the Ukraine invasion.  The government is trying very hard to keep this under wraps.  The glimpses we're getting are making the situation seem incredibly serious, but its hard to judge.

Maybe he wants Musk to call Khamenei a pedo like he did over That Thai Incident.

Musk turned on Starlink access over Iran. No idea about Rowling, has she commented on the protests?

Said it before on this forum, but Iran is a wonderful country, with a cultural history that would make almost anywhere else wince in jealousy. The majority of the population is under 25, is well educated and very liberal.
I really hope this is the start of something new. The people in Iran have suffered long enough, through no fault of their own.

The protests have reached Khamenei's hometown, the second-most populated city in Iran

Just looking geographically, I would take a guess that Mashhad is probably a more conservative city relative to the country, would that be right?
If so…dang.
