Could very well be fake news a la Turkey's fake coup in 2016 as propaganda to impel Russians to rally around Putin. I hope I'm wrong.

It's possible me, but seems contrary to Putin's tightly crafted image as a firmly in control strongman. Fingers crossed.

Well the person they replace Putin with could be even worse than Putin so they might be mad at Putin for the exact wrong reasons

The only UK outlets to report this are the Mirror and Star, which hardly have a stellar track record of accuracy, and I can’t find a major US outlet or wire service reporting the news.

Going to treat this as rumour until we get confirmation from a reliable source - and even then, sourcing news from within Russia is a minefield.
