Well... look on the bright side Ernest... you don't have to worry about Lewis anymore.  I don't think he will be bothering any of us again anytime soon.

Stepping off my neutral pedestal for a second, I think that isn't too fair.  Lewis was never given a chance to "bother" anybody, because he never had the chance to hold the Midwest for more than one turn.

It was just some friendly taunting, I assure you.  All in good fun.  Wink

If I'm not cocky at least once during a game its because I am getting trashed.  Smiley

BTW... if you lose your capital do you loose reinforcments as well?  Its been my understanding that that's how Risk works, but I don't see it in your rules.

I'm not sure what you mean here.  If I understand the question correctly, then no, there's no particular loss in reinforcements, aside from the effect of controlling less states than before.  The only thing your capital is good for is just to keep hold of it and three opponents' at once in order to win.  It doesn't really serve any other function.

What I meant was... usually in Risk games that I have played, loosing ones capital means that they get no reinforcments until they get the capital back... its sorta a "get it back or die trying" kinda deal... which gives further incentive for not losing it.  That might not be the case on the board game... I haven't played the board game in a number of years, I usually play the computer versions which have some rules differences.

Anyway, rats... had I know that, I would have played my turn differently.  Sad

Anyway...

Tactical Move:  move one unit from Michigan into Wisconsin.

Pacific Army Forces Capture Midwestern Capital

From the PNN:

In a show of stratigic brilliance, President Supersoulty, commander of the Pacific Armies, who has vowed to return control to the civilian government pending the end of the civil war, has captured Royal Oak, Michigan.

In a rally at the former capital of General Trondheim's "government", The Great Leader reminded troops that he had made good on his pledge that "The Midwest is like an old house.  All we need to do is kick in the door and the whole rotten structure will come tumbling down."

In a joint session today, the Provisional Congress gave the Our Great Leader a loud and joyous "Harumph!".

We will give you more news as the military makes it available.

It's good of you to say so, because I was under the impression you had some super-secret plan that my feeble mind could not possibly comprehend. Tongue

Acctually, my alternate plan was very well thought out, but I figured I would be further ahead to just deny him reinforcments alltogether... saddly, the rules didn't cooperate  Tongue

2 battalions have been deployed in Oklahoma, where there are now 5 in total; and 1 battalion has been deployed in Alabama, where there are now 4 in total.

Attacks

Oklahoma invades Arkansas (Ernest) with 4 battalions available to attack, while 3 battalions will defend Arkansas.

MAS117 [4] rolls 3 dice: 4 3 2
Ernest [3] rolls 2 dice: 3 3
Both armies lose 1 battalion each

MAS117 [3] rolls 3 dice: 6 2 1
Ernest [2] rolls 2 dice: 3 2
Both armies lose 1 battalion each

MAS117 [2] rolls 2 dice: 4 4
Ernest [1] rolls 1 die: 5
MAS117 loses 1 battalion

MAS117 [1] rolls 1 die: 1
Ernest [1] rolls 1 die: 6
MAS117 loses 1 battalion

MAS117 has been defeated, and Ernest now controls Arkansas with 1 battalion.

----------

Alabama invades Florida (Ernest) with 3 battalions available to attack, while 2 battalions will defend Florida.

MAS117 [3] rolls 3 dice: 3 3 1
Ernest [2] rolls 2 dice: 4 3
MAS117 loses 2 battalions

MAS117 [1] rolls 1 die: 1
Ernest [2] rolls 2 dice: 4 3
MAS117 loses 1 battalion

MAS117 has been defeated, and Ernest still controls Florida with 2 battalions.

Congratulations Ernest. '

MAS, you should really get off your stupid pact and do something about Supersoulty, or else he'll win way too easily.

Since it doesn't matter now, my alternate plan was to go through Missouri, Illinois and either Indiana or Wisconsin to threaten Michigan, thus forcing Lewis to reenforce his capital and attack my forces which were close by... once he had done that, and his men were all massed away from the boarder, I was going to use the next turn to build up against the upper Midwest and Plains and take the Dakotas, Minnesota and Iowa before he could turn back aroudn and reinforce them.

Notice the vast difference between rolls taken by Soulty and rolls taken against him (note that I'm conflating offense and defense rolls) - the result of his extremely favorable starting position on the board.
