I almost wonder how many Tories would be okay with surrendering power at this point. They are pretty much assured of losing the next election, so you might as well start the timer to when they return to power now as opposed to starting the timer in 2024. There could also be some more moderate Conservatives that might see an election loss as an opportunity to reboot the party and that they should just get along with that process now.

Problem with that is that if you want to reboot the party you really need to, you know, have some MPs left standing after the election.

I don't buy these forecasts that show Labour with over 500 seats.

That might be because I've never seen anything like that, so it's beyond my imagination. But still, I don't think Conservatives end up with less then 100 seats.

Naturally, if there's an election, the Tories would pick a new leader beforehand so it won't be so shambolic. the 500 seat estimate is on the unlikely assumption an election was held today with Truss as leader.

I’m not entirely sure what to think about them, but I would tend to ageee with you to an extent. We’re so far from normal that I don’t think the uniform swing calculators can truly handle it.

I'll say it: Charles is a Bad Man but a Good King, at least so far.

Governing is when you Growth, and the more Growth you Growth, the more Growther it Growth.

This government feels like a bad parody of US pseudolibertarian right wing tendencies a decade ago.

Government minister (Graham Stuart) now says in the Commons that this *isn’t* a confidence vote - in contrast to comments made on Sky by Steve Baker around 30 minutes ago, and by the deputy chief whip this morning.

Not sure if this is just chaotic, or a genuine attempt to change direction.

Ruth Williams (a Conservative) made an intervention, directly criticising the minister, and stating that she and others had repeatedly been told today, by whips,  that this was a conference matter, and that they would lose the whip if they voted against or abstained on the motion.

Williams was genuinely angry, voice raised and trying to interject into the minister’s statement.

~ Voting has now started on the Fracking & Confidence Motion, with results expected around 19.15 ~

It’s beginning to feel like Truss is being held hostage by her own Cabinet - Liz, blink twice if you need help (though she’d probably manage to find a way to f—k that up too, somehow)

For the Government to declare something a confidence issue and then lose said vote is the type of thing where the monarch would actually have a right to take an interest…

The Labour motion which may or may not have been a confidence vote is successfully defeated 230-326, though at this point I think that hardly matters.
