Jesse White, etc. endorsing Vallas will anger a lot of Black activists.

Jesse Jackson, Jonathan Jackson, etc. hasn't endorsed anyone yet. Their endorsement matters too.

If Vallas wins, I pray to God that there are no police incidents because Chance the Rapper is coming in 2027 if that happens.

Actually, Jonathan Jackson endorsed Brandon Johnson already

Will Jesse make an endorsement?

I feel whoever wins will have a poisoned chalice....

2027 and 2031 will be another lesser of two evils....

When I met Jesse Jackson two years ago it took a team of people to help him get around. He’s a great man put his politicking days are behind him

If true, Davis backing Johnson behind the scenes is quite shocking.

Why is that shocking? Davis seems to be fairly lefty in general, while Vallas is very moderate if not conservative

Davis is, ironic given last year's primary challenge, a former DSA member.

What's really shocking is Jesse White making the decision to endorse Vallas. A lot of younger Black people are not gonna be happy with him, and presumably a lot of Lightfoot (whom he supported in the first round) voters too.

This is important less for its direct impact on voters and more as, in essence, a free pass for any Democratic politicians or institutions to line up behind Vallas. If Jesse White's doing it, it's okay for everyone else to do it.

Most Democratic pols were always going to get behind Vallas, no matter what Jessie White did. It is notable in that it sets the tone for Black lawmakers. I expect Bobby Rush to do the same.
The Daley Dynasty runs strong behind Vallas

Some questions: from the aldermanic elections, it seems like there will be a solid non-DSA progressive plurality, which would have a majority the few DSA pols. Is that accurate?

The mayor in Chicago is actually a rather weak position relative to the city council, from what I understand. If Vallas gets elected and tacks too far to the right, that could provide a majority to check him, no?

He was chair of the Panthers post Hampton, that's probably more meaningful than some DSA membership!

Vallas or Johnson should hire Val Demings or former Camden, NJ police chief Scott Thomson....it can't be the same retreads........

Johnson seems to be winning the late mail ballots. This is like the 3rd batch of late votes he’s won.

I was looking back to 2019 and Lightfoot got roughly the same amount of votes in the first round then as she did now.

2019
97,667
17.54%

2023
91,405
16.91%

It seems she only lost around 6,000 first round voters. Had there been more consolidation of the field in 2019 she could have never been mayor.

They've counted 44,645 since 3/2 and reported around 130K still needed to be counted before hand.

The guy got less than half percent. So I'm not sure this is a game changer.

Even discounting that he was a candidate, a black south side alderman is still a major get. Especially since, as noted upthread, Johnson at minimum needs to keep the black vote fairly strongly on his side to even have a chance at competing in the runoff.

Also worth noting sawyer’s father was mayor of Chicago after Washington so he’s got some decent south side pedigree

Vallas now down to 33.0%, Johnson up to 21.6%. Vallas may dip to 31-32 while Johnson could jump to 22-23 when all is said and done.

Johnson's Northside blob and his Hyde Park blog keep getting bigger as more votes are counted.

What does the blue mean? Votes for Chicago's homemade version of Bronz.
What does the green mean? Well, that's most black precincts in the city.
What does the orange mean? That's most Latino precincts in the city.
But,
What does the red mean?

Yes that’s true. Places like Uptown and Logan square that are transitioning from poorer and less white to richer and more white.
