Regardless of how baffling we may find them, ticket-splitters exist, and always will. I think it's been evident by a lot of polling by now that we're seeing some pretty big disparities between some Governor and Senator races in the same states, with gubernatorial candidates mostly outperforming their Senate counterparts. The only exceptions I can think of are Kansas and Oregon in the reverse.

I suppose this is to be expected when gubernatorial elections involve more locals issues being focused upon than the national issues involved in Senate races.
