The Oscar-nominated writer-director was known for films such as Das Boot, Air Force One and In the Line of Fire. He died of pancreatic cancer at home in the company of his wife, Maria Borgel Petersen. His death was confirmed by his representative.

Although real-life U-boat veterans made valid critiques of it, Das Boot is an incredibly stirring movie.

It's an enjoyable film, but the plot is kinda stupid.  Why would a psycho be so obsessed with some secret service agent?

I just watched the seemingly-generally-panned Troy recently. Despite the writer now having a terrible reputation, I rather enjoyed the film. RIP.
