Sweet, those Republicans violating court orders didn't manage to win. In your face, losers. 2 more pickups in the State Senate, and Lt. Gov. Paterson gets to break ties for the Democrats.

this will set up another Special election.  This one to fill Johnson's seat in the county legislature.  Dems had a 10-9 advantage, now 9-9 with Johnson's victory.  Dems should keep the seat.

Too bad the fun probably stops there.

We had such a thing after our mayor resigned. First we had a special election for mayor, which resulted in a city council member winning with 25% with 19% turnout. Then we had to have another special election to fill his old city council seat, which had 12% turnout.

OK, here's a cool scenario:

State Senator resigns.
State Rep wins State Senate seat.
Mayor wins State Rep seat.
County Commissioner wins Mayorship
City Councilman wins County Commisionership.
Special Election for City Council.

got a bit bored so looked into the Pres results for the  Legislative District (based off 2000 because census has voting districts based on 2000 (re districting has changed some of the precinct data as the Assembly district is incoporated in the voting district in Nassau

Gore won the district by almost 30 points, 62.93- 33.67

Representative wins commissioner of public lands job.
State Senator wins House seat.
State Rep wins State Senate seat.
Mayor wins State Rep seat.
County Commissioner wins Mayorship
City Councilman wins County Commisionership.
Special Election for City Council.

Apparently there are some rumours that two Republican State Senators from Upstate NY are thinking about switching parties.

That would be interesting. How far upstate? Doomed ones in Westchester and Putnam, or farther up?

Upstate proper (one Rochester, the other in Western NY I think) not the suburbs.
