I can't believe that this woman is openly auditioning to Trump for a SCOTUS seat and everybody is just sitting down and taking it.

What would you like us to do? I think almost everyone here is convinced at this point she is acting biased.

I'm not talking about you, of course we can't do anything. I mean the people who are handling this case.

It's like if you come for the king, you best not miss. They have to wait until she crosses a line to take action or it won't work. She's been very strategic about it and judges just have that power.

I believe Donald Trump has some suggestions on which Amendment of the Constitution ought to be used to resolve situations like this... and, like everything he says, listening to him would gravely wound our Republic.

Mar-a-Lago judge denies Trump’s request to file briefs together in documents case, orders slower, one-by-one pace instead
Quote
The federal judge overseeing Donald Trump’s indictment for allegedly illegally retaining classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida has denied a request from the former president’s attorneys to file a consolidated brief laying out all of his pretrial motions in one time-saving maneuver and instead, has ordered him to file them one-by-one and with rules on page limits for each.

The motion from Trump’s attorney Todd Blanche was filed late Tuesday and noted that the former president wanted to file “at least 10 pretrial motions” not to exceed 200 pages on a variety of matters including special counsel Jack Smith’s appointment; the subject of presidential immunity — notably, a fight he has lost in every venue he has launched it so far; accusations of “selective” and “vindictive prosecution”; his grievances over the “vagueness” of the statutes he has been charged under and what Blanche called “an illegal raid at Mar-a-Lago, and improper violations of President Trump’s attorney-client privilege.” His co-defendants in the Florida case, Waltine Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira, joined together to respond to special counsel Jack Smith’s Feb. 12 motion as well, in which the special prosecutor argued Trump was attempting to improperly smuggle “misleading” and irrelevant defense theories in at the last minute in order to delay. Trump’s legal team said it was Smith’s “misrepresentations” that caused delays.

Trump just filed all of his motions to dismiss, citing (1) presidential immunity:

(2) the Presidential Records Act:

(3) decrying the Espionage Act as unconstitutionally overbroad & vague:

& (4) arguing that the Special Counsel was unlawfully appointed:

TL;DR:

Question 14 indicates that the prosecution expects the trial to last 4-6 weeks while the defense is thinking 8-10 weeks:

My predictions on Cannon's handling of Donald's trial between now and the election:

1) she will set a trial date that will delay the DC trial (and, if necessary and possible his Georgia trial as well), as much as possible, and

2) she will dismiss the charges against Trump shortly before Election Day.

Smith can appeal (and would likely win) an outright dismissal fwiw.

Trump’s plan to use Judge Cannon to block Judge Chutkan and avoid trial

Quote
Former President Donald Trump’s lawyers see a major opportunity this week to use his criminal document mishandling case in Florida to create an impasse on his calendar for the two federal judges overseeing his major criminal cases.

Juggling his campaign and court calendar and playing his cases off one another is a key part of Trump’s legal strategy. The ultimate goal, his team has said openly, is to prevent Trump from being tried in federal court before voters cast their ballots in the 2024 general election.

A primary aim for Trump’s legal team, according to people familiar with the strategy, is to put the judge in DC overseeing the 2020 federal election obstruction case, Tanya Chutkan, in a position where she can’t start a trial before Election Day.

“Meaning, ice her,” said a person familiar with Trump’s trial schedule strategy. “Making it impossible for her to jam a trial down before the election, by things that are out of her control.”

That's what happens when one judge (Cannon) is working overtime to protect Trump while the other (Chutkan) is (foolishly?) following the rules.

What would be the actual basis to move the trial beyond Jack Smith's date (July Cool? Honestly, what would even the be basis to move it from May?

Also, I don't understand why each trial has to work around another trial. There's no reason why trials can't be overlapping? Shouldn't be anyone's fault if the person indicted is a criminal enough that he/she has multiple trials going on at the same time.

I think it would be difficult for the defendant to be in two different courtrooms at the same time.

Who's fault that though? That's my point - each judge should just set the trial when they want. They shouldn't have to worry about anyone else's trial. If they overlap, then work something out, but it feels like each one has to even predict at this point when the other is and now that makes even more of a mess. Just schedule them and figure it out later if they overlap.

(Nitpick: it's March.  July is four months from now.)
