A time traveler tells you that ten years hence Joe Biden will be the 46th President of the United States of America and that the people of Atlas will desperately be rooting for Sarah Palin and for the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney to win their respective U.S. House races. To make things clear, he also tells you that both women will have remained Republicans.

What do you think will have happened in the meantime?

I mean its not that hard to imagine given some of the types of candidates you had in 2010/2012 in Republican races who infamously threw away seats as well.

Occum's razor back then would lead me to think that there would be a massive influx of Republicans to atlas.

Biden is elected in 2016 and reelected in 2020. Atlas is a Republican forum, rooting for right wing candidates in both AK and a state that may be WY.

Biden is in his 2nd term but his 2nd term is tumultuous having to deal with inflation, a botched withdrawal from Afghanistan and a stagnant economy. By 2024, the Republicans will be out of the Oval Office for 16 years and are energised.

Mitt Romney very narrowly wins in 2012. The Democrats retake the House in 2014 and the Senate sees the Republicans net gains of one or two seats in the Senate. However, due to the Democrats having the Senate in Romney's first two years and then having the House in the last two years, nothing gets done, triggering a strong right wing primary challenge. After Romney secures the nomination, another far right winger runs a third party candidacy, Hillary Clinton stays out of the race and Joe Biden runs for President, wins the nomination, and narrowly defeats President Romney in the General to become the 46th President of the United States, with the Democrats keeping the House and retaking the Senate.

2017-18 sees Biden pass a public option, a tax increase on the wealthiest Americans, nuke the filibuster, and pass sweeping climate bills. Ginsberg and Breyer retire prior to 2018, but the court remains 5-4 Conservative thanks to Romney filling vacancies left by Scalia and Kennedy. The economy is similar to the pre pandemic economy Trump presided over, but despite the good economy, the Republicans retake the Senate and narrowly retake the House with fringe reactionaries being swept in similar to the Tea Baggers of 2010. Despite Gridlock, the economy hums along nicely until 2020 when a pandemic hits. Despite economic fallout, President Biden decisively defeats far former Vice President Paul Ryan in the 2020 Presidential election after Ryan went into the general election damaged from the Republican primary and thanks to President Biden's competent handling of the General election. The loss of Romney's VP only further enables the far right of the Republican party causing primary challenges across the board to incumbent Republicans across the nation causing many Democrats to think even Congresswoman Liz Cheney and Former Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin look moderate by comparison to their reactionary Republican primary opponents.
